We believe in total freedom and self-determination for all Palestinians.” Big Thief announced the July concerts at Tel Aviv venue Barby last last week, explaining in a statement that they wanted to explore bassist Max Oleartchik’s Israeli hometown and meet his family and friends in the same way that he had done for them as they toured the United States. “It is important for us to go where we have family to share space and play for them,” the band said. “It is foundational. Bank of Israel claims ‘public support’ for its CBDC project

According to Reuters, on Monday, The Bank of Israel summarized the results of the public consultation on its central bank digital currency (CBDC) plans. It has received 33 responses from different sectors, with half of them coming from abroad and 17 from the domestic fintech community. Bank of Israel issues draft guidelines on cryptocurrency AML/CFT

On Friday, the Bank of Israel published a draft regulation on Anti-Money-Laundering and Combatting the Financing of Terrorism (AML/CFT) risk management for the banks facilitating crypto-to-fiat transactions. The move hints at the Israeli government’s preparations to legalize and regulate the relationship between banks and virtual currency service providers (VASPs). The document cites the customers’ increased involvement with digital assets as the rationale for the new policy: “In view of the increase in customer activity in virtual currencies, and the resulting increase in customer requests to transfer money […] the Banking Supervision Department today published a draft circular dealing with managing AML/CFT risks derived from the provision to customers of payment services relat...

Israeli authorities seize Hamas linked crypto accounts

A set of 30 crypto wallets from 12 exchange accounts that have been linked to the terrorist group Hamas based in the Gaza Strip were seized on Monday by Israeli authorities. Crypto exchange al-Mutahadun held the wallets where 12 accounts were allegedly being used by Hamas leaders to fund terrorist efforts against Israel. The Times of Israel reported that Israel’s Defense Ministry said on Feb. 28 that al-Mutahadun has helped Hamas’s military wing “by transferring funds amounting to tens of millions of dollars a year.” The exact value of the seizures and specifically what crypto assets seized is not yet clear, however, Israeli officials believe Hamas uses “tens of millions of dollars” in crypto funds to fund its military. Israeli Defense Minister Benny Gantz said in a Feb. 28 statement “We c...

Binance stopped ‘all activities focused on Israel’ following regulatory request: Report

Major crypto exchange Binance has reportedly halted activities and marketing to Israelis following a request from one of the country’s financial regulators over licensing. According to a Thursday report from Israel-based news outlet Globes, the Capital Market, Insurance and Savings Authority requested Binance provide information on the services it was providing to Israelis as well as any licenses under which it operates. Israeli Politicians Call Emma Watson Anti-Semitic for Pro-Palestine Instagram Post

Emma Watson has long been an outspoken actress, but her most recent foray into activism isn’t going over well with some politicians. After sharing a pro-Palestine image on Instagram on January 2nd, the Harry Potter star has come under fire from some Israeli politicians, who called the post anti-Semitic. Watson posted a photo of a pro-Palestine protest with the phrase “Solidarity is a verb” overlaid across the center. In the caption, she quoted the academic Sara Ahmed, who offers insight into the meaning of solidarity. All things considered, it’s a pretty harmless post — Watson doesn’t even use her own words, let alone comment on Israel or Jewish people directly. See for yourself below. Still, that didn’t stop Israeli politicians from turning on the actress. “10 points from Gryffindor for b...

The Samaria Regional Council also reportedly said the settlement’s structures will not be demolished, but rather...
