Google Accuses Apple of Using iMessage To “Bully” People Into Buying iPhones

HipHopWired Featured Video Source: Future Publishing / Getty Yes, “blue bubble envy” is real, and Google feels Apple is capitalizing on it. According to a report in The Wall Street Journal, Google is accusing the company that Steve Jobs built of “bullying” and using it as a deliberate strategy to make Android users look and feel like the bottom of smartphone users on its iMessage platform. It’s no secret that iPhone users rub it in the faces of Android smartphone users that iMessage has a bunch of cool features while constantly clowning “green bubbles” they receive from text from an Android phone. The report states that Apple is well aware of this and is using the fact that its phone and messaging platform has become some sort of status symbol among smartphone users and is using it to its ...

iOS 14.5 Is Live, Lets You Unlock Your iPhone While Wearing A Mask But There Is A Catch

HipHopWired Featured Video Source: Apple / iOS 14.5 While mask-wearing keeps us safe and rona-free, it is a nuisance when it comes to unlocking our iPhones. Apple’s latest software update, iOS 14.5, rectifies that issue, but there is a catch. Apple announced today that iOS 14.5 is rolling out for iOS and iPadOS and features a ton of improvements to its devices. The biggest one being the ability to unlock your phone without having to input the unlock code because of mask-wearing. Due to having to mask up throughout the day because, yes, we are still in a pandemic, unlocking your iPhone has become a chore, but no more, thanks to iOS 14.5 not requiring a Face ID match or passcode. To utilize the feature, you have to own an Apple Watch, unfortunately, which is a bummer for those who don’t care...

Nokia to cut up to 10,000 jobs worldwide

File Photo Telecoms company Nokia has announced its plan to cut between 5,000 and 10,000 jobs globally in the next two years. It said the move will enable it reduce cost, catch up on 5G, and invest in cloud computing and digital infrastructure research. Nokia said on Tuesday that the restructuring is aimed at boosting its performance against opponents such as Sweden’s Ericsson and China’s Huawei. The company did not indicate regions affected by the measure, but said about 96 jobs in the UK were under threat as part of the €600m (£518m) cost cuts, BBC reported. A Nokia spokesperson was quoted as saying, “We currently expect the consultation process in the UK to cover an estimated 96 roles.” “At this stage, however, these are only estimates. It is too early to comment in detail, as we have o...

Apple’s App Store hosting multi-million dollar scams – developer

Mobile app developer Kosta Eleftheriou has a new calling that goes beyond software development: taking on what he sees as a rampant scam problem ruining the integrity of Apple’s App Store. Eleftheriou, who created the successful Apple Watch keyboard app FlickType, has for the last two weeks been publicly criticizing Apple for lax enforcement of its App Store rules that have allowed scam apps, as well as apps that clone popular software from other developers, to run rampant. These apps enjoy top billing in the iPhone marketplace, all thanks to glowing reviews and sterling five-star ratings that are largely fabricated, he says. Up to now, I’ve been in the “Apple *wants* to do the right thing” camp. My viewpoint is starting to change. How to spot a $5M/year scam on the @AppS...

Apple loses copyright infringement claims against security startup

A federal judge in Florida on Tuesday dismissed Apple’s copyright infringement claims against a Florida startup whose software helps security researchers find vulnerabilities in Apple products including the iPhone. U.S. District Judge Rodney Smith ruled in favor of Corellium LLC, saying its software emulating the iOS operating system that runs on the iPhone and iPad amounted to “fair use” because it was “transformative” and helped developers find security flaws. Apple accused Corellium of essentially replicating iOS to create “virtual” iOS-operated devices, whose “sole function” was to run unauthorized copies of the system on non-Apple hardware. But the Fort Lauderdale-based judge said Corellium “adds something new to iOS” by letting users see and halt running processes, take live snapshot...

Apple Announces iPhone 12 Line, Including Mini and Pro Models

During a pre-recorded launch event on Tuesday, Apple announced the latest additions to their smartphone line, the iPhone 12. In addition to the standard and Pro models, a new Mini version of the popular device was introduced. Some of the biggest upgrades over the previous models come in the iPhone 12’s screen. Apple has transitioned from LCD to OLED (organic light-emitting diode), which ups the brightness and HDR capabilities. They’ve also coated the screen in a “ceramic shield” for the first time, a feature that increases durability (“four times better drop performance”) and water resistance. As per usual with these upgrades, the iPhone 12 is smaller and lighter than previous models without decreasing screen size. The standard version has a 6.1-inch screen, while the Mini model covers 5.4...

Apple announces September 15 date for online iPhone 12 reveal event

Despite acknowledging that this year’s iPhone launches will be delayed by a few weeks relative to their traditional late September street dates, Apple isn’t stopping the hype train from leaving the station this month. The company announced today that a media event will indeed take place on September 15, roughly a week after its typical iPhone and Apple Watch debuts, setting the stage for new devices to arrive in October. Like the company’s WWDC20 developers’ conference, this event will be virtual rather than in-person, and livestreamed online for immediate viewing across the globe. The stream will start at 10 a.m. Pacific Time (1 p.m. Eastern) on Apple.com for viewing through browsers, as well as the TV apps on iOS, iPadOS, and tvOS devices. Apple is expected to announce the iPhone 12 fami...
