Official: TETFund spends N120 billion on academic staff training since 2008
Academic Staff from public institutions across the country have so far accessed over N120 billion for training, within and outside Nigeria, from the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) since its inception in 2008. The Chairman, Board of Trustees of TETFund, Alhaji Kashim Imam, disclosed this on Wednesday when he led a delegation of the fund to the University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) on an assessment visit. Imam said for 2021 alone, the fund was investing N25 billion on academic staff training and development. Imam said the team was in the university for a verification visit and to assess the impact of the training programmes, through interaction with management and beneficiaries. Southeast governors lunches regional security outfit
The five governors of the Southeast region, on Sunday, launched Ebubeagu regional security to fight terrorism in the zone. The Chairman Southeast Governors Forum and governor of Ebonyi state, Dave Umahi, disclosed this to newsmen at the Imo government house, along side with other Southeast governors. According to him, the regional security would be the joint Vigilante from Southeast with their headquarters in Enugu state. Eight killed in fresh Plateau attack
Eight people have been killed in a night attack by unidentified assailants at a mining site in Kuru, Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau. The incident was said to have occurred on Friday night. Governor Simon Lalong has directed security agencies in the state to fish out the perpetrators of the act. He said the attack was another desperate attempt by criminals to destabilize the state and create fear among the people. While commiserating with the families of those killed and those who sustained injuries, Lalong reiterated his charge to security agencies to resolve such attacks as excuses of “unknown gunmen” will no longer be tolerated. Bayelsa: We won’t retrench workforce amid dwindling revenues – official
The Bayelsa state government has assured civil servants in the state that it had no plans to downsize the workforce, amidst dwindling revenue. The government said on Thursday that although it was contending with an unwieldy wage bill, it would seek alternative sources of revenue to shore up its finances. The Commissioner for Finance, Maxwell Ebibai, gave the assurance at the transparency briefing for the months of January and February 2021, in Yenagoa, the state capital. Nigerian government mulls TCN’s unbundling, partial concession to boost power supply
The federal government is considering the unbundling and partial concession of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) to boost its efficiency in the government’s bid to improve power supply. Director, Energy, Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE), Mr. Yunana Malo, said during the March edition of “the Electricity Hub” conversation series on power that the National Council on Privatisation (NCP) had directed that a proper strategy should be mapped out for the unbundling of TCN. Niger community embark on protest over lack of electricity supply
File Photo The Hausawa community in Sabon-Dikko, Gurara Local Government Area of Niger State yesterday protested against the lack of electricity and other basic social amenities in the area. The community claimed that for one year after the transformer they bought through community efforts got burnt beyond repairs, and requests made to the Abuja Electricity Development Company (AEDC) for its replacement, the area has remained without electricity. The community, which claimed to have one million population, also decried the absence of educational institutions, health facility and potable in the area. The National Traditional Council of Nigeria has called on the National Assembly Joint Committee on the review of the 1999 constitution to ensure a constitutional provision is made with a view to creating roles for traditional rulers in matters involving religion, culture, security, justice and other ancillary matters.
