YouTube’s New Creator Music Program Is Its Solution to Copyright Strikes and TikTok

Uploading a video to YouTube is like bracing for impact. You never know when their Content ID system is going to hit you with a copyright strike.  But YouTube’s newly unveiled Creator Music program aims to be the solution the company and its creators have longed for.  The program is currently in beta testing, but it will add a large catalog of licensable music for creators to use in their videos. Users will be able to search, browse and purchase these tracks and agree to terms that aren’t bogged down by legal jargon.  The way YouTube currently functions is through a very robust Content ID system. Creators can utilize YouTube’s stock music, but the library is limited and its song don’t always fit their content. Video creators have tried to use music ou...

“Now I’m Feelin’ So Fly Like a Cheese Stick”: Study Uncovers Most Misheard Song Lyrics

The lyrics of dance music’s most timeless contributions are being lost in translation, but does anyone mind? A new study examines the most commonly misheard song lyrics in modern times and their effects on our understanding of the music itself.  A survey of 1,000 Americans by WordFinder revealed that the top 40 most misheard songs include several timeless electronic favorites from Far East Movement, Skrillex, Calvin Harris and more. We’re not sure if it’s the hunger talking, but comically, fans have been mistaking the hook from Far East Movement’s “Like a G6” as “now I’m feelin’ so fly like a cheese stick.” Aside from the silliness of it, this mistake is particularly interesting as listeners need only look at the title of the song ...

The resolution effectively continues her fight for musicians to earn a “reasonable” living from their recorded music. “Expressing the sense of Congress that it is the duty of the Federal Government to establish a new royalty program to provide income to featured and non-featured performing artists whose music or audio content is listened to on streaming music services, like Spotify,” reads the bill. Tlaib’s resolution proposes the royalty rate be administered by SoundExchange and the Copyright Royalty Board, who would calculate, collect, retain and distribute payments to the appropriate copyright ...

Mere months after being slammed by the music industry at large for auctioning music NFTs without artists’ consent, HitPiece has relaunched, Billboard reports. But HitPiece is now back online and aiming to be “the easiest place to create and buy authentic music artist NFTs,” according to Billboard. “HitPiece is working with the licensors of music to secure performance rights,” Felton said in an email to Billboard. “We may enter into agree...

Inside Grass Lands, the Largest Cannabis Experience In a U.S. Music Festival to Date

Music producers, artists, and event organizers often talk about how they smoke the competition, but few pull it off quite like Outside Lands. Last weekend, Grass Lands celebrated its fourth year at the Bay Area fest. In that time, the experience has expanded with more partners and offerings, but the best part is festival-goers are able to purchase and enjoy their cannabis freely in a fully compliant zone for smoking. Alive Coverage Now in its 14th iteration, Outside Lands Festival is no stranger to pushing the envelope, but few can assemble the cavalcade of top-shelf cannabis partners who make Grass Lands such a potent festival experience. For instance, Traditional, who is known largely as the godfather of OG growers through most of California, was there with discounted buds in a variety o...
