Police arrest two ‘highway robbers’ in Osun

The Osun Police Command on Friday said it had arrested two suspected members of a highway robbery gang after they were identified by one of their victims in Ile-Ife. According to a statement by the Osun Police Spokesperson, SP Yemisi Opalola, the suspects were arrested at about 12 noon on Friday after the driver of a bus they robbed earlier in the day spotted them at a bank and alerted the police. “We have arrested two suspected armed robbers, namely; Abiodun Abdulahi, 35, living in Ado Ekiti and Godwin John, 19, living in Lagos, but hails from Imo state. “They were arrested today at about 12p.m. at Ile-Ife by policemen. “The two and other gang members now at large, at around 9:45a.m. on Friday, robbed and dispossessed passengers of a bus coming from Lagos and heading towards Ilesa via Ife...

The Police are on the trail of a a suspected ritualist who killed and cut off the head and hands of a female food vendor in Ile-Ife, Osun State on Saturday. The Command Spokesperson, SP Yemisi Opalola, who said this in a statement on Sunday, said that the police were on the trail of the assailant. OAU: Security guard who committed suicide left notes for his family

The management of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun state on Thursday disclosed that a local guard in the institution, Fisayo Oyeniyi sent a suicide message to his family before killing himself. Fisayo was said to have committed suicide on Saturday, March 20 by hanging himself at his house located at Kanmi Bus stop, Ifewara road, Ile-Ife around 12noon and was buried on Sunday. He was said to have reported to duty on Saturday before returning home to commit suicide. President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the appointment of Mr Adedeji Zacch as the Executive Secretary of National Sugar Development Council (NSDC) for an initial term of four years. Legendary highlife singer, Pa Chris Ajilo, who composed and sang what has become the Lagos anthem, “Eko O Gba Gbere,” has died at the age of 92. David Ekanem, the singer’s caregiver, said Pa Ajilo had been battling malaria since last week. Man sentenced to death by hanging for murder

File Photo An Osun State High Court sitting in Ile Ife has sentenced a 37-years old man, Oluleke Ogunyemi to death by hanging for alleged murder. Ogunyemi was said to have killed one Moshood Babalola on 17th of February 2010 at about 10am at a village called Agbedegbede in Ile Ife, Osun State. Ogunyemi was arraigned on 6th March, 2013 on two counts charge murder and conspiracy to murder an ofgence contrary to section 319 and 324 criminal Code Laws cap 34, Laws of Osun State. Oyo governor appoints retired general as Amotekun chairman

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has appointed retired general Ajibola Kunle Togun as the Chairman of the Oyo State Security Network, code-named Amotekun. A statement signed by Moses Alao, Special Assistant to Makinde on Print Media, also indicated that a retired colonel, Olayanju Olayinka, was appointed as the commandant of the security outfit. According to the statement, the two retired military officers will oversee the state security network which was put in place to check insecurity in the state.
