Aston Villa have signed Ashley Young on a free transfer. The former Villa winger (now turned left-back) is back at the club after 10 years since leaving them to join Manchester United. The 35-year-old spent nine seasons at Old Trafford before joining Inter Milan in January 2020. He has signed a one-year deal at the club, and the vastly experienced Englishman is expected to play a key role for Villa next season. Young took to social networking site Twitter to express his reaction after completing the move. Ian Wright, former England and Arsenal striker, has responded to his post. Welcome back Ash. Great to see this happen for you ❤️ — Ian Wright (@IanWright0) June 17, 2021 SL View Young has enjoyed a stellar career. He made 190 appearances for Villa be...
Former England striker Gary Lineker says he will get extra checks on his brain for signs of dementia. Research has found that former professional footballers are three and a half times more likely to die from a brain disorder than the general population. Already, an inquiry was launched by the UK parliament this month into sport’s link to dementia. Lineker, who has previously suggested a complete ban on heading in training, joined a radio programme for a Dementia in Football documentary. He revealed he and colleagues Alan Shearer and Ian Wright fear they could end up with a brain disorder. “I’ve had conversations with Alan Shearer and Ian Wright and others about the worry that, come 10, 15 years, that it might happen to one of us,” said the 60-year-old former England captain turned broadca...
Popular football pundit Gary Lineker has showered heaps of praise on Arsenal youngster Bukayo Saka after the Gunners earned a 3-1 win over Southampton. The Gunners maintained their excellent run of Premier League form by coming from behind to beat the Saints on Tuesday night at St Mary’s. Arsenal missed a glorious chance to take the lead in the opening minute after Alexandre Lacazette failed to hit the target from a one-on-one situation. Within two minutes, Stuart Armstrong gave Southampton the lead, scoring from a wonderful delivery from captain James Ward-Prowse. Five minutes later, Nicolas Pepe equalised with a neat finish. Bukayo Saka put the Gunners ahead after going past keeper Alex McCarthy, before both the sides created some very good scoring chances. The...
Liverpool moved to the top of the Premier League table after beating Crystal Palace 7-0 at Selhurst Park on Saturday. Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah scored twice for the Reds while the likes of Takumi Minamino, Sadio Mane and Jordan Henderson were also on the scoresheet. In the 57th minute of the match, Klopp took Mane off and replaced him with Salah. Mane was clearly not happy with the decision, and he looked upset on the bench. Former great Arsenal striker turned popular football pundit Ian Wright has suggested that Klopp will hold talks with Mane at some point this week, and explain to him the situation. The Liverpool squad has been ravaged with injuries this season, and Klopp is looking to protect his players, especially around the busy festive period. Wright claims that Mane i...
Ian Wright has taken to Twitter to give his reaction to Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta deciding to leave Mesut Ozil out of his Premier League squad. Ozil was earlier omitted from Arsenal’s Europa League squad, and Arteta has decided to leave him out of his Premier League squad as well. The German attacking midfielder has been on the books of the Gunners since the summer of 2013 and is out of contract at the North London club at the end of the season. Arsenal legend Wright has given his take on Ozil’s situation, and he has admitted that he is disappointed that the 32-year-old is not going to play for the Gunners. Football will never stop surprising me. The fact that whatever has gone on couldn’t be resolved between the club & Mesut is sad. Sad for everyone involved and I can only se...
Ian Wright has urged Manchester United to sign RB Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano. The 21-year-old impressed with his performances in the Champions League last season, most notably against Atletico Madrid. Upamecano recently revealed he held talks about a potential move away from RB Leipzig and his focus, for now, is the Bundesliga club (via Manchester Evening News). We all know that would quickly change if United came knocking with an offer in the morning, and former Arsenal star Wright thinks we should make move. When you look at the defence — despite Solskjaer claiming to be happy with it — it shouldn’t be hard to look into the transfer market to find better options. Victor Lindelof is an awful partner to Harry Maguire, but hopefully we see more combinations in the foreseeable future —...
Reported Aston Villa target Emiliano Martinez has announced on Instagram that he is leaving Arsenal. Martinez has made an emotional video and has posted it on his Instagram page, announcing that he is leaving Arsenal. The 28-year-old goalkeeper has been on the books of the Gunners since 2010, but it seems that his time at the Emirates Stadium is coming to an end. Martinez has been strongly linked with a move to Villa, with The Sun reporting on Saturday that the Argentine was to undergo a medical at the Villans that day and seal a £20 million move to the Premier League club. It seems that it is only a matter of time before Martinez completes his move to Villa, and the Argentine has posted an emotional farewell message to Arsenal, to which Gunners legend Ian Wright has responded. Martinez sa...
Ian Wright has raved about Arsenal goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez and reported Leeds United target Emiliano Martinez, and is worried that Chelsea will make a move for him, as quoted in The Express. The Arsenal legend has admitted that he did not realise just how good Martinez is until he saw him recently in regular action. The Argentine goalkeeper is playing regular first-team football for the Gunners at the moment due to injury to first-choice custodian Bernd Leno. According to The Sun, Leeds – who will play in the Premier League next season after clinching automatic promotion from the Championship – are interested in signing the 27-year-old goalkeeper this summer. Wright has also admitted that he is worried that Chelsea manager Frank Lampard could make a move for Martinez due to the mistak...
Glasgow Rangers striker Jermain Defoe could play a key role for the Ibrox club next season, according to Premier League legend Les Ferdinand. Celtic will be aiming to win ten titles in a row next season, and Rangers must do everything to stop them. Defoe will turn 38 in October, but Ferdinand believes the former Tottenham Hotspur striker will still continue to score goals that will halt Celtic’s march towards their tenth title in a row. According to reports from The Scottish Sun, Alfredo Morelos is almost certain to move on this summer. In that case, Defoe is set to spearhead the Gers attack. Ferdinand says that Rangers need people who can score important goals in big games, and Defoe certainly can provide that. In 2019-20, Defoe played mainly as a back-up to Morelos. However, he...
