deadmau5, REZZ, More Pay Tribute to i_o Following Producer’s Tragic Death

Garrett Lockhart, who to friends and fellow musicians was affectionately known as i_o, tragically passed away at the age of 30 on Monday, November 3rd. The gifted techno and deep house producer was coming into his own, in every sense of the term. Since shedding his skin as Fawks, an alias in which he cut his teeth in the electronic music scene as one of its brightest drum & bass producers, he charted a path to stardom after establishing his spellbinding i_o brand. Lockhart recently celebrated his momentous signing to Armada Music as well as the launch of his own Label 444 banner. Ergo, perhaps the most devastating aspect of Lockhart’s sudden death isn’t what he has done so far, but rather how much more he had to accomplish. The EDM family has banded together in the last 24 ho...

i_o and Lights Release Trippy Animated Short Film for “Annihilation”

Back in May, the enigmatic i_o dropped the curtain on his new single “Annihilation,” which arrived on deadmau5‘s mau5trap imprint. In a flash of the tech wunderkind’s versatility, the song explored a softer side of i_o with its melodic deep house underscores and honeyed vocal performance from Lights. Adding to the metaphysical allure of the single is its new accompanying visual component, which i_o released via mau5trap today. “Annihilation (A Short Animated Film)” is a succinct yet striking animated audiovisual journey that seems to aim to fling its viewers into a kaleidoscopic rabbit hole. Animated by Sam Button, the sumptuous video is a perfect addition to “Annihilation,” infusing an eloquently minimalistic film noir aesthet...

i_o Explores His Soft Side with New Project AM 444

Take a guess at i_o‘s favorite number. His recent project, a three-part series of four songs each, is titled 444, if that’s any clue. Its third and final installment, titled AM 444, was announced today and is due out May 29th. Its lead single, “Annihilation,” was also released today via mau5trap.  Following 2019’s ACID 444 and February’s NRG 444, each piece of the project has been dedicated to the dance music roots defining i_o’s sound, including warehouse dubstep and aggressive, uptempo techno. “Annihilation” and AM 444 will explore the the producer’s softer side with melodic and progressive house. It will also be the first set of songs to be created with alt-pop artist Lights, perhaps best known in EDM f...
