Fire destroys shops, property worth billions of naira at Katsina central market
Hundreds of shops were burnt to ashes following a fire outbreak at Katsina Central Market on Monday, newsmen report. The fire started at around 8 a.m., on Monday, from some shops located at the centre of the market, before it spread to other parts. The fire is still raging as at about 12:30pm, in spite of efforts of firemen to contain it. The inferno had destroyed property worth billions of Naira, mostly belonging to traders selling clothings, shoes, kitchen utensils, carpets, plastics among others. Some of the traders affected said they had no idea how the fire started, but added that they had lost everything in their shops to the fire. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of plotting a forceful take over of Zamfara State because of the security challenges confronting the state. The party levelled the accusation in a statement on Wednesday by its spokesperson, Kola Ologbondiyan. The North-west state is governed by a PDP governor, Bello Matawalle. The Northern States Governors Forum on Friday condemned another attack on Government Secondary School, Jangebe, in Zamfara State where hundreds of schoolgirls were abducted, saying enough is enough. The Zamfara Government has confirmed the abduction of female students of Government Girls Secondary School, Jangebe, in Talata-Mafara Local Government area of the state. The confirmation was made by the Commissioner of Security and Home Affairs, Alhaji Abubakar Dauran, in a brief interview with newsmen in Gusau on Friday morning.
