Enugu governor signs revised 2020 budget into law
Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State has signed the revised 2020 budget of N146 billion (N146,374,641,080) into law, as against the earlier approved budget of N169,557,658,300.00. The revised 2020 budget of N146.4 billion represents 13.67 per cent reduction in the initial budget size of N169.6 billion, which amounts to N23.2 billion The revised budget, which was in response to the negative consequences of the outbreak of the coronavirus (COVID-19) on the economy, was passed by State House of Assembly on Wednesday, after its presentation to the public for inputs. Bauchi assemblyman donates land for cemetery extension
A member representing Kirfi constituency in the Bauchi House of Assembly, Abdulkadir Dewu (PDP), on Tuesday donated a piece of land to his constituents for the expansion of their graveyard. He also presented five new vehicles to party loyalists. The lawmaker said the donation of one hectare land to Guyama village was timely. He said his decision to donate the plot of land was informed by the pressing need to expand the current graveyard in the area, which had almost filled up and lacked space for burial. Wife of late former Speaker of Edo State House of Assembly, Hassana Garuba, has been reportedly abducted by gunmen. Her husband, Zakawanu Garuba, who died yesterday at Abuja after a brief illness, was being taken home to Auchi for burial when the widow, her three children and the aged mother of the late former Speaker encountered the gunmen at Kabba junction in Kogi State. They were said to have abducted the widow and the driver, leaving the three children and their grandmother stranded in the vehicle. Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki and the state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party have mourned the death of former Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Alhaji Zakawanu Garuba. Garuba (54), who was speaker between 2007 and 2009, was said to have died in Abuja in the early hours of Saturday after a brief illness. The Lagos House of Assembly has urged Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu to investigate the recent protest by street sweepers engaged by Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) over non-payment of their salaries.
