Hayden James Gives ODESZA’s “The Last Goodbye” a Stunning House Makeover

This week ODESZA surprised fans by dropping an official remix of “The Last Goodbye,” the titular track from the duo’s Grammy-nominated album of the same, produced by none other than Australian house music virtuoso Hayden James. James’ upbeat rework of the soulful track is a funky re-imagination that sublimely reflects the intention and theme of ODESZA’s original. While “The Last Goodbye” is a powerful electronic record sampling Bettye LaVette’s 1965 song “Let Me Down Easy,” James transforms it into a decidedly house track—and a dancefloor filler. The Australian dance music star used a quicker tempo in his energetic, four-on-the-floor beat, producing staccato synths and a subdued drop with pulsing bass. James shrewdly leans on LaV...

Tiësto Drops New Hypnotic House Track, “Lay Low”

Tiësto has dropped his first new single of 2023, a hypnotizing house track called “Lay Low.” Brimming with sultry deep house undertones and spacey choral vocals, “Lay Low” sets the tone for what should be another big year for the Dutch dance music icon, who is currently gearing up for the release of his seventh studio album. Tiësto’s new single is the latest of a string of high-profile collabs blurring the lines of pop and house music, including “10:35” (with Tate McRae) and the anthemic “Hot In It” (with Charli XCX). Both are confirmed to appear on his forthcoming album, Drive. Tiësto recently said that Drive will take on a “completely new direction” as he embraces more house music production. The album, which is ...

Rich DietZ Realign Their Energy On Heavy-Hitting Club Track, “Chakras”

Rich DietZ are embracing the new year ahead with their familiar, heady house rhythms. The duo is bringing the satisfying bounce of their signature basslines to “Chakras,” an energizing, dancefloor-ready track with catchy, tongue-in-cheek vocals. Over the course of 2022, the red-hot duo have notched a year of earworm singles such as “LIT” and “Free Ur Mind,” among other house bangers. With pitched down, lounge-style vocals, they continue to bring an even more elevated energy to “Chakras”—and we’re sure this isn’t just the crystals talking. On the production side, Rich DietZ have consistently had a penchant for bass-driven tech house music. On “Chakras,” a supercharged percussion section with marching snares and pumping ...

TONG Drops Inventive House Remix of Matroda’s “Gimme Some Keys”

Last month, emerging L.A.-based artist TONG was crowned the winner of Insomniac’s 2022 Discovery Project competition for her inventive rework of Matroda‘s house banger, “Gimme Some Keys.” Her massive remix propelled her to the stage of one of the nation’s largest electronic music fests, EDC Orlando, where she threw down a banging tech house set for her first-ever festival performance. For her groovy take on Matroda’s house anthem, TONG opted to add funky guitar elements, quirky vocal chops and a pulsing bassline that rarely relents. It’s clear that this promising dance music producer likes to take risks, experimenting with a wide range of sounds in the pursuit of developing her own unique style of house music. TONG’s rework is part of a colle...
