Hot Chip Detail Freakout/Release, Share First Single ‘Down’
Hot Chip are back with their first album of original songs since 2019’s A Bath Full of Ecstacy. Titled Freakout/Release, the band released its first song and opening track, “Down.” [embedded content][embedded content] The writing process for “Down” kicked off the creation process for what would be the new record. It is anchored around a sample of “More Than Enough” by Universal Togetherness Band. The Shining-referencing video was directed by Douglas Hart and Steve Mackey. In a new chapter of the band’s discography, Freakout/Release is out on August 19 via Domino. It is Hot Chip’s eighth studio album, which was written and recorded in East London. Hot Chip Revive the Velvet Underground’s ‘Candy Says’
Hot Chip has given The Velvet Underground’s “Candy Says,” off their 1969 album, Boston Tea Party (Live), the electronic treatment. Despite adding more tech to the sound, they stay fairly faithful to the original, which was a song the UK band used to play in their younger years. “Candy Says” is the lead track to announce Hot Chip’s latest compilation, Late Night Tales, dropping Oct. 2.
