Everyone’s favorite Halloween store is becoming a movie. Watch the full trailer for Spirit Halloween: The Movie below. Spirit Halloween: The Movie looks like one of those classic ’80s tween horror films, where a group of young boys ride their bikes through a lush fall wonderland in order to get up to some unsupervised trouble. Written by Billie Bates and directed by David Poag, the film follows a group of middle school friends (Donovan Colan, Jaiden J. Smith, and Dylan Martin Frankel) who resolve to spend the night in the newly opened Spirit Halloween because they think they’ve outgrown trick-or-treating. Of course, once the store closes, they realize it’s haunted, and the spirit in question possesses the shop’s animatronics in an attempt to seize them. Christopher Lloyd, Rachael Leig...
With Halloween on the way, Netflix has offered a sneak peek at Wendell & Wild, an animated film from stop-motion pioneer Henry Selick (The Nightmare Before Christmas and Coraline) and producer Jordan Peele. Watch the teaser trailer below. Peele also reunites with his former sketch comedy partner Keegan-Michael Key to star as the eponymous demon brothers in the movie. Key and Peele voice Wendell and Wild, respectively, who recruit teenage orphan Kat Elliot (Lyric Ross) to bring them into the Land of the Living. Showcasing Selick’s instantly recognizable animation, the clip first offers a brief glimpse at Kat’s journey to a group home following the death of her parents. Then, Wendell and Wild begin haunting Kat in her dreams. “Everybody’s got demons,” Kat states matter-of-factly. “M...
The first official teaser for Noah Baumbach’s White Noise is finally here. The black comedy-horror sees the mumblecore filmmaker return with his frequent collaborators Adam Driver and Greta Gerwig, who star in the film alongside Don Cheadle and André 3000. Adapted from the 1985 novel of the same name by Don DeLillo, White Noise follows Jack Gladney, a professor at a Midwestern liberal arts college who’s known for pioneering the field of “Hitler studies.” The trailer opens with Jack, his wife Babette, and their four children in the car together, in standstill traffic that appears to be prompted by a bad storm. “I wanna know how scared I should be,” says one of Jack’s daughters as she examines the facial expressions of passengers in other cars. If you’re familia...
The Pitch: Remember Esther (Isabelle Fuhrman), the precocious tot who turned out to be a thirtysomething psychopath from Estonia with hypopituitarism? The one who terrified Vera Farmiga and her well-to-do New England family in 2009’s surprisingly chilling Orphan? In the grand tradition of Annabelle: Creation and Ouija: O-ouija-n of Evil, The Boy director William Brent Bell takes us back to Esther’s beginnings, thirteen years later and with a fraction of the budget. Perhaps “beginnings” is a bit of a stretch, to be fair: a more accurate title would be Orphan: Second (or Maybe Third?) Kill, as we’re introduced to little Leena in 2007 Estonia, two years prior to the first film’s events. She’s not Esther yet, but she has already offed her first host family, the one Ver...
In the teaser trailer for Luca Guadagnino’s upcoming film Bones and All, Timothée Chalamet’s character asks his love interest whether she thinks he’s a bad person. The answer really depends on what you think of cannibals. Marking a reunion between Chalamet and the Call Me by Your Name director, Bones and All is based on Camille DeAngelis’ novel of the same name. Taking place in the 1980s, the love story follows a pair of teenage cannibals named Lee (Chalamet) and Maren (Taylor Russell) as they travel across the United States. Though the clip clocks in at under 30 seconds, we still get a glimpse of some of the trouble they get into along the way. Watch the Bones and All teaser trailer below. The film’s official logline describes it as “a story of first love between a young woman learni...
The full trailer for They/Them has been released, and it’ll leave viewers grateful that summer camp weather will soon be coming to an end. The conversion camp-meets-slasher flick thriller will premiere on August 5th on Peacock. The film follows a group of queer and trans campers attending a LGBTQIA+ conversion camp run by Kevin Bacon’s Owen Whistler, who uses a number of horrific methods to “help them find a new sense of freedom.” Something is lurking at Whistler Camp that’s even more sinister though, with the trailer revealing a terrifying masked slasher. We’ll have to wait and see who exactly is behind the mask, but it’s not very reassuring that Bacon can hardly keep a straight face as he delivers the trailer’s last line: “Just enjoy the sunshine and work on your tan.” Watch th...

Last year, Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk spun off camp favorite American Horror Story into the anthology series American Horror Stories. Come July 21st, the spinoff returns with Installment 2, and in its freshly released trailer, ghosts, serial killers, and freaky dolls terrorize such stars as Alicia Silverstone, Bella Thorne, and Max Greenfield. Where American Horror Story took us on season-long journeys through haunted asylums, hotels, and freak shows, American Horror Stories offers a new, self-contained adventure every week. In the trailer for Installment 2, Silverstone attempts to clear a clogged bathtub drain, only to discover someone, not something, is the culprit. Meanwhile, Thorne and Greenfield play skeptics, as Greenfield denies the existence of ghosts and Thor...
The Pitch: Taking on a new installment in the sprawling Resident Evil media franchise is a daunting task. Since the groundbreaking survival horror video game was released in 1996, there have been more than a dozen games that provided source material for six Milla Jovovich-starring films, three animated movies, and a CGI Netflix series. With such a rich backstory to pull from, Netflix’s new live-action series, simply titled Resident Evil, centers around one of the franchise’s most memorable villains, Albert Wesker (Lance Reddick), while creating a new set of characters around him. In 2022, Wesker moves his twin teenage daughters Jade (Tamara Smart) and Billie (Siena Agudong) to the sterile corporate housing of New Raccoon City to be closer to his work for the nefarious Umbrella Corporation ...

This ain’t your mother’s conversion therapy: Today, Peacock has unveiled the official teaser for They/Them, the upcoming slasher flick starring Kevin Bacon as the director of a mysterious sleep-away camp that resorts to some drastic measures in an effort to turn its attendees straight. Premiering August 5th, the film marks the feature-length directorial debut of John Logan, whose screenwriting credits include Skyfall and Martin Scorsese’s The Aviator. The teaser for They/Them (get it? “They slash them”?) opens on a wide shot of Whistler Camp’s latest fleet of LGBTQ+ campers. This year’s crew includes Jordan (Theo Germaine), whose gender identity conflicts with their religious upbringing; Alexandra (Quei Tann), a young transgender woman on the brink of being kicked out of her hom...
