Get ready for the return of the real Chucky. Child’s Play creator Don Mancini has confirmed that the long-awaited TV spinoff series — aptly dubbed Chucky — is officially heading to USA and SyFy in 2021. To celebrate, he’s shared a fun little teaser trailer below. As previously reported, Mancini worked with Channel Zero mastermind Nick Antosca on the series, which also sees the return of star Brad Douriff, who has voiced the murderous doll since the 1988 original. Jennifer Tilly is also along for the ride. Here’s the synopsis for the series: “After a vintage Chucky doll turns up at a suburban yard sale, an idyllic American town is thrown into chaos as a series of horrifying murders begin to expose the town’s hypocrisies and secrets. Meanwhile, the arrival of enemies — and allies — from Chuc...

Ben Stiller, Darren Aronofsky to Adapt Stories From Stephen King’s If It Bleeds

Hollywood continues to devour Stephen King’s latest collection If It Bleeds. Last week, it was confirmed that Netflix, Ryan Murphy, and Blumhouse are adapting “Mr. Harrigan’s Phone”. Now, according to Deadline, we know where the other stories are going. The book’s second story, “The Life of Chuck”, has been scooped up by Darren Aronofsky’s Protozoa. So far, the veteran filmmaker is only attached to produce, but the surrealist trifecta of a tale would be a perfect fit for the brazen auteur. Next up is Ben Stiller of all people, who has optioned the fourth story, “Rat”. If all goes to plan, Stiller would both star and direct the film, which follows a troubled writer who makes a Faustian bargain with, well, a furry critter. And finally is the titular novella featuring Holly Gibney. Details ar...

Relic Is a Terrifying and Touching Allegory for Dementia: Review

The Pitch: Three generations of women deal with the inevitability of death in the face of a global pandemic largely affecting the elderly. Kay (Emily Mortimer) and her daughter Sam (Bella Heathcote) travel to grandmother Edna’s (Robyn Nevin) remote Australian home after receiving news that she has disappeared. When Edna returns days later with no memory of where she’s been, the house begins to change, complicating an emotional story of aging with sinister undertones. Directed by Natalie Erika James, who also wrote the script along with Christian White, Relic effectively weaves in elements from Hereditary and The Visit to deliver a terrifying tale that tugs at the heartstrings. The Ties That Bind: Relic struck a nerve with me. The story of a woman dealing with her ailing mother at the end o...

John Carpenter is back with his first non-soundtrack music since Lost Themes II. This morning, the Master of Horror announced a new 12″ single in “Skeleton” b/w “Unclean Soul” that’s due out August 28th via Sacred Bones Records. Once again, Carpenter is backed by his son Cody Carpenter and his godson Daniel Davies, who give the composer some wings. “Skeleton” is a jet rocket set for a dystopian night sky, while “Unclean Soul” digs deep into the bowels of hell. Carpenter offered a statement on the two tracks: “It was refreshing to be able to write music that didn’t have to fit to any sort of locked image. We also had a specific focus and direction we wanted to follow when working on Halloween, both in terms of mindset and instruments, and being able to return to working without that narrow ...

Friday the 13th’s Jason Voorhees Promotes Face Masks in New PSA Video: Watch

After decades of slaughtering camp counselors and teenagers, Jason Voorhees is promoting … safety. In a new PSA video by Ogilvy Health and the Chimney Group, the Friday the 13th movie monster is insisting on masking up against COVID-19. “It’s not easy,” Voorhees says in a funny voice over. “The mask kind of makes people feel uncomfortable. I wish everyone could see me for who I am. I’m just trying to fit in. I know … the whole chainsaw thing … I get it. But behind the mask, I’m just a regular guy.” To be fair, Voorhees is more of a machete guy, but we’ll let it pass, especially since it’s for such a good cause. After all, we’re living in Trump’s America, where science has become politicized and health is selfishly up for debate. Watch below. “How can we get them to pay attention to this li...
