Among the artists that turned the industry on its head and skyrocketed their careers this year are Kim Petras, Shawnee Kish, and Quinn Christopherson. As we close out 2021, these artists and songs continue to shape-shift music and lead us into the next era of sound. DJ, fashion icon, and trans activist Honey Dijon has launched an Etsy collection to showcase LGBTQIA representation throughout the eras. Drawing inspiration from museum gift shops, one of Dijon’s favorite parts of a museum, the collection features products from other women of color like earrings, wallets, socks, and vases. Queer culture has become much more inclusive over the years. Dijon points out that the ’50s, ’60s, and ’70s were the most transformative years for the Queer community. “What really draws me to that is when fashion and art reflect that social change, in the end, you have marginalized people creating their own music and culture,” Dijon told Billboard. “I mean, two generations ago, we lost so many of the most highly creat...
Earlier this month, London DJ Riva Starr released his single “The Feeling” (with Gavin Holligan) on his own Snatch! Records imprint. After Dijon voiced her support, Starr made the obvious decision to recruit the talented “Why” producer for an official remix. She took the original tune and spun it into a more tribal, funky, and deep beat using punchy drums, elements of funk, and soulful vox. Check out the new rework below. Alongside Dijon’s main and extended remixes of “The Feeling” is another stripped back “Dub Plate” mix, where she brings a bigger, more traditional house sound.
