The best part of the Home Alone films is watching a young Macaulay Culkin inflict serious pain on Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern, but the movies’ absurd slapstick comedy actually caused real consequences for Pesci. Looking back on the 30th anniversary of Home Alone 2: Lost in New York for People, Pesci recalled sustaining “serious burns” while filming a certain scene in the beloved sequel. “In addition to the expected bumps, bruises, and general pains that you would associate with that particular type of physical humor, I did sustain serious burns to the top of my head during the scene where Harry’s hat is set on fire,” Pesci said. While the actor noted that “I was fortunate enough to have professional stuntmen do the real heavy stunts,” it was really him getting blowt...

The abiding premise of Home Alone — a precocious tot in suburban Chicago defending his home against bumbling burglars with an array of increasingly complicated booby traps — feels like the kind of lightning-in-a-bottle pitch that could only sustain itself for one perfect movie. And yet, like its fellow Christmas-siege classic Die Hard, that hasn’t stopped studio execs from mining the concept for, count ’em, four sequels and counting. (A fifth, Home Sweet Home Alone, is set to premiere on Disney+ on November 12th.) After the success of the 1990 original, written by John Hughes and directed by Chris Columbus — a film that grossed nearly $500 million at the box office and catapulted Macaulay Culkin to superstardom — a sequel naturally followed, Home Alone 2: Lost in New York. We’ve seen plenty of celebrity step up and ask (plead with?) people to wear their face masks. Stevie Nicks wrote a message on her public journal, Motörhead made their own Lemmy masks, and Paul Rudd teamed with New York state for a hilarious video targeting millennial. But Macaulay Culkin has created what is either the best or creepiest PSA by donning a face mask featuring his own visage from Home Alone. In a post that broke the Internet, Culkin shared a photo of himself wearing… well, himself. The mask features an enlarged image from the Home Alone poster, itself a reference to the iconic scene where Kevin McCallister learns about the pains of aftershave. True, given the thirty-year age difference between Culkin now and when he played the character, the proportions are kind of terrifying, ...
