Based on Dan Charnas’ bestselling book Dilla Time: The Life and Afterlife of J Dilla, The Hip-Hop Producer Who Reinvented Rhythm, the film Dilla Time will tell the fascinating story of the Detroit native, who died of a rare blood disease in 2006 at age 32. Kanye West Talks Social Media in ‘Good Morning America’ Interview Clip: Watch

For the first time since Kim Kardashian filed for divorce in February 2021, Kanye West will be sitting down with a major news network for an on-camera interview. Ye will appear on Good Morning America on Thursday (Sept. 22), and discuss co-parenting, politics, ongoing battles with Gap and adidas, Donda Academy, his social media use and more with ABC News Live Prime anchor Linsey Davis. In a teaser clip shared to Instagram on Wednesday (Sept. 21), Davis asks the multihyphenate if social media is more harmful or beneficial to him. “That’s one of my favorite questions of this interview,” Ye responds. “We could use a car to rush somebody to the hospital, or we could use a car and accidentally hit somebody while we’re rushing somebody to the hospital. It all in how we use it.” West has had a tu...

Lil Nas X Introduces the Man Behind the Meme at New York’s Radio City: Review and Setlist

When arriving at a show on the “Long Live Montero Tour” (grab tickets to remaining dates here), you’re first greeted by venue security handing you a Playbill. It’s a jarring experience — particularly, as was the case at New York City’s Radio City Music Hall on September 20th, when a local radio DJ is warming up the audience by blasting songs you might have attempted to grind to at a homecoming dance. But this Playbill actually sets the scene well: It has a photo of Lil Nas X on the front, adorned with butterfly wings and all. “I hate writing stuff that isn’t music but my people are forcing me at gunpoint to write this welcome note,” reads the first page in a hand-scribbled passage from the rapper, who certainly isn’t known for doing things in earnest. “This play is about my journey, what I...

Benny The Butcher Wants to Become the Best Rapper & Executive

Benny The Butcher has hit a transitional period in his career. At the tail end of 2021, the Buffalo, New York product landed a major label deal with Def Jam Records, leading to a plethora of guest features and the fourth installment in his beloved Tana Talk series the following year. Today, Benny is assuming a new role as a music executive with his Black Soprano Family label and its new album Long Live DJ Shay, released earlier this month. Getting to this point was something the rapper knew would eventually happen, especially after his productive year. And Benny’s fully confident things are supposed to happen this exact way.   “I wanted all this, so I focused a little harder,” Benny The Butcher tells Billboard about his evolution. “I realized the arena I’m in,...

Lil Nas X Gets a Freakishly Accurate Wax Figure at Madame Tussauds

Lil Nas X took his horse to Madame Tussauds: The rapper has been immortalized with a hyper-realistic, life-size sculpture of himself at the Hollywood branch of the iconic wax museum. The wax figure of Lil Nas X is donning a replication of the gold Versace suit armor he wore at the 2021 Met Gala, along with the jewelry and manicure he sported at the event. The cherry on top is a copy of his diamond grill, making Lil Nas X the first sculpture in Madame Tussauds history to wear one. Unlike poor Rihanna, the wax Lil Nas X is so faithful to the real thing that it’s almost hard to distinguish the two on first glance. “never thought i would get the pleasure of meeting myself,” Lil Nas X wrote on Instagram. “the sexual tension was too much to bare. Lil Nas X Sends Pizza to Homophobes Protesting Outside His Show

By now, there’s enough evidence to know that any attempt to slight Lil Nas X will backfire, but this group of conservative Christians had to find out for themselves. When a pack of God-wielding protesters gathered outside the rapper’s Boston show yesterday (September 19th), he decided to do what Jesus himself would’ve done: Give them pizza. “just told my team to send them pizza,” Lil Nas wrote, quote-tweeting a video of protesters. “this is really good promo!” He followed up with a video of one of his team members offering the protesters an olive branch in the form of crust, marinara, and cheese. “We thank you — we appreciate it, but no thank you,” one remarked, a twinkle of hunger detectable in his eyes. “update: they didn’t want the pizza but i accidentally fell in love with one of the h...

Ludacris’ Manager Chaka Zulu Faces Murder Charge in Connection to Atlanta Shooting

The manager for the rapper Ludacris faces a murder charge in Atlanta in connection with a June shooting. The Atlanta Police Department said Chaka Zulu, whose legal name is Ahmed Obafemi, turned himself in to face charges Tuesday (Sept. 13). Atlanta news outlets report that he was released on bail the same day. Police said they also secured warrants charging him with aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime and simple battery. Gabe Banks, a lawyer for the longtime music executive, issued a statement expressing disappointment in the decision to bring charges. Banks said evidence clearly shows Zulu — who was injured in the incident — defended himself while being attacked by at least four other people in the June incident. Zulu was among three people shot in...

Post Malone Injures Ribs After Falling On Stage, But Finishes Concert

Post Malone received medical attention after taking a hard fall on stage during his concert in St. Louis on Saturday night. According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Malone was performing “circles” when he tripped into an uncovered hole that had been used to lower equipment below the stage. He landed on his ribcage and laid on the stage for several minutes as medics attended to him. The rapper was eventually able to stand up and walk off the stage with assistance, but told the crowd that he would return. Following a 15-minute delay, Post Malone did indeed resume the concert, albeit for only an abbreviated set during which he continuously held his ribs.
