Beyoncé knows how to orchestrate a promotional cycle better than almost anyone in the game. So we probably shouldn’t be surprised that there’s more than just her new visual project, Black Is King, arriving today. In addition, the Queen Bey has shared an expanded deluxe edition of The Lion King: The Gift, as well as a music video for the album cut “Already”. Black Is King is a companion film to The Gift, itself a companion album to Disney’s live-action Lion King remake. The new deluxe edition of the LP includes Beyoncé’s recent single “BLACK PARADE”, originally released on Juneteenth, as well as an extended version that adds a good 35 seconds. There’s also a remix of “Find Your Way Back” by MeLo-x. Stream the collection below via Spotify and Apple Music. You can also hear it ...
Adele is loving Beyonce’s new visual album, Black Is King. The 32-year-old British songstress, who rarely shares photos of herself on social media, gave fans a double whammy on Instagram Saturday (Aug. 1), showing off her luscious quarantine locks while paying tribute to Bey’s Lion King-inspired release. “Thank you Queen for always making us all feel so loved through your art,” Adele captioned a spectacular photo of herself kneeling by a TV featuring Beyonce’s stunning “ALREADY” music video. In the pic, a smiling Adele is wearing a crescent moon-decorated long-sleeve shirt similar to the Marine Serre catsuit Beyonce and her dances don in the clip. On Friday, Bey once again made the world stop with the release of Black Is King on Disney+, an im...
Song of the Week breaks down and talks about the song we just can’t get out of our head each week. Find these songs and more on our Spotify New Sounds playlist. “Normalcy” has been more than just a buzzword over the course of 2020. For many, it’s been the destination, the endgame, and the main desire. Phrases like “return to normal” or “some semblance of normalcy” get tossed around constantly by those tired and frustrated by these uncertain times. However, more and more, “normal” seems like a total pipe dream, and more people are also waking up to the reality that “normal,” for many, has been in many ways a nightmare — and something not worth returning to. The reality remains that the COVID-19 pandemic, a failed administration, and renewed calls for racial justice have fundamentally shifte...
Kanye West is standing by the anti-abortion comments he made during his first presidential campaign rally in South Carolina. West took to Twitter on Friday (July 31) — about two weeks after breaking down in tears on stage in Charleston while revealing that he and wife Kim Kardashian considered aborting their daughter North — to restate his feelings about the controversial topic. “I cried at the thought of aborting my first born and everyone was so concerned about me,” the 43-year-old rapper and fashion mogul wrote. “I’m concerned for the world that feels you shouldn’t cry about this subject.” He added that more than “22,500,000 black babies have been aborted” during the past 50 years. In another tweet, West wrote, “There is a tactic of ...
The Pitch: “I can’t breathe.” These were some of the final words uttered by George Floyd, an African American man killed in Minneapolis, Minnesota, as a result of police brutality. Due to the frequency of its usage by countless others during similar situations in the past, this phrase has come to be synonymous with the Black Lives Matter movement. While the self-worth and regard for the life of a person of color has continuously come into question, the healing power of art (particularly music) has always been used as remedy in times of despair. Historically, the slaves residing on various plantations would receive momentary comfort by harmonizing hymns of perseverance, hope, and religion. To this day, artists are still sought out to deliver a message that is reflective of the times through...
Grammy award-winning R&B artist Toni Braxton announced Friday (July 31) she’ll release her 10th studio album Spell My Name on Aug. 28 via Island Records. In tandem with the news, she released the single “Dance,” a nu-disco club-ready banger that serves as an antidote for any heartbreak, which R&B hitmaker Antonio Dixon (Beyoncé, Teddy Riley, Ariana Grande) produced. She previously released the Dave Audé remix of “Dance,” which went No. 1 on the UK’s Commercial Pop Club chart. The new single follows “Do It,” which peaked at No. 3 on Billboard‘s Adult R&B Songs chart two weeks ago and was remixed by Missy Elliott last month. Spell My Name, which fans can pre-order here, is her first...
