Cardi B Reacts to Lil Nas X’s ‘Certified Freak’ Pose

Cardi B had one word for Lil Nas X‘s “WAP”-inspired portrait. “Goddam,” she wrote Saturday (Aug. 15), retweeting a sultry picture of the rapper posing shirtless by the pool. Lil Nas X had captioned the photo “certified freak,” with a zany face emoji, when he posted it earlier in the day — a reference to Cardi’s first line in her latest single, “WAP”: “I said certified freak, seven days a week.” Before she was fanning herself over Lil Nas X’s post, Cardi kicked off the weekend on a political note, endorsing New York congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez on social media for a future presidential run. The Bronx-born politician was seen jamming out to “Bodak Yellow” to which Cardi responded: “...

Snoop Dogg Honors a Fallen Friend with “Nipsey Blue”: Stream

Tomorrow, August 15th, would have been Nipsey Hussle‘s 35th birthday. In honor of that day, Snoop Dogg has released a moving tribute song to the fallen rapper, “Nipsey Blue”. Before he was killed on March 31st, 2019, Nipsey built his reputation off of scorching g-funk mixtapes, community activism, a sharp entrepreneurial spirit, and one excellent album: 2018’s Victory Lap. Throughout his career, Snoop didn’t just co-sign Nipsey, he took the younger rapper under his wing. In a 2010 interview with Complex, Nipsey spoke about the profound influence of the Doggfather. “Snoop didn’t ask me to sign to him, ask for no percentage, ask for no cut, and he more or less just took his visibility and his celebrity and co-signed and spoke real highly of me as opposed to being like “Oh, fuck this you...

Kanye West Congratulates Kamala Harris on VP Nomination: ‘It’s an Honor to Run Against You’

Kanye West has shared a touching congratulatory message to Kamala Harris, who was recently selected by Joe Biden as his running mate for the 2020 presidential election. “I know my mom and Kamala Harris would have been friends … congratulations on being the democratic Vice President nominee … all love and respect from the future president,” the 43-year-old rapper and presidential hopeful tweeted on Saturday (Aug. 14). “It’s an honor to run against you.” This is the first time West has publicly commented on Biden’s pick for VP, which marks the first Black, Asian American woman on a major party presidential ticket. Following the Aug. 11 announcement, numerous artists celebrated Harris’ nomination, including Taylor Swift, John Legend, Katy Perry ...

Lawsuit Against Lizzo Over “Truth Hurts” Royalties Dismissed

Lizzo may finally get some peace and quiet after last year’s nonstop lawsuits. On Friday afternoon, a California federal judge dismissed a lawsuit against the breakout pop star over credits on her hit “Truth Hurts”. Last fall, songwriters Justin and Jeremiah Raisen accused Lizzo of plagiarizing the “Truth Hurts” lyric “I just took a DNA test/ Turns out I’m 100% that bitch” from “Healthy”, a collaborative demo they made together with the Cuz I Love You singer, Jesse Saint John, and Yves Rothman in April 2017. Lizzo pushed back by suing the Raisens and Yves Rothman, and instead granted a songwriting credit to Mina Lioness, the Twitter user whose original joke inspired the lyric. Then in February, the Raisens filed a countersuit against Lizzo to demand credit and royalties from “Truth Hurts”,...

North Kingsley (System of a Down’s Shavo Odadjian) Unveil Vol. 1 EP: Stream

Last week, System of a Down bassist Shavo Odadjian’s new band North Kingsley unleashed their debut single, “Like That?”. Now, they’ve released the full three-song collection Vol. 1, along with a video for the track “Die for the Pic”. The trio is rounded out by vocalist Ray Hawthorne and producer Saro Paparian, with Hawthorne delivering biting commentary on social media trends in the song “Die for the Pic”. “Die for the Pic is a statement on modern hypocrisy,” explained Hawthorne. “The masses are tending to follow popular trends without taking the time to analyze what’s actually going on. People often agree with whatever they are told the correct way to think is, and then post about it online, in an effort to be perceived well by their peers. In my experience, most of these people don’t eve...

Chrissy Teigen Opens Up About Being Pregnant During Breast Surgery: ‘It’s Quite a Story’

Chrissy Teigen has “quite a story” to tell about her surprise pregnancy. One day after revealing she and husband John Legend are expecting their third child, the 34-year-old model and author opened up about how she discovered her latest pregnancy after a breast implant removal surgery in early June. On Friday night (Aug. 14), one of Teigen’s 13 million Twitter followers asked if she knew she was pregnant before going into surgery. “Oh, it’s quite a story. Lol,” Teigen responded before setting the record straight on the timeline. “I did the routine pregnancy test you do before surgery. It said negative. It was not negative,” Teigen tweeted, adding that she took another test, this time with positive results, on June 19, the same day Legend released his new album...

Biggie’s Son CJ Wallace Releases His First Music as He Grows Social Impact Company

Over a Zoom video interview, Christopher “C.J.” Wallace, Jr. holds up his dad’s jersey that almost eclipses Wallace and the entire computer screen. “It’s a 5XXL,” Wallace tells Billboard. On the back of the jersey, ‘POPPA” is stitched in bright yellow letters against the hunter green fabric. The young entrepreneur was only five months old when his father, The Notorious B.I.G., was killed. Now 23, Wallace has finally done something he says he was “very scared of for the longest time”: releasing his own music, inspired by his dad’s. “I just avoided it because you don’t wanna mess up anything great,” says Wallace. Born in New York City and raised in Los Angeles, Wallace has been in the process of building his own legacy with Think BIG — a social impact company that he co-founded with bu...

EarthGang Are “Powered Up” on New Song for Madden NFL 21: Stream

Atlanta rap duo EarthGang make inventive, absurdist hip-hop songs that are not too dissimilar from the kind that fellow locals Outkast created. Now, like André 3000 and Big Boi before them, Olu and WowGr8 will contribute to the Madden video game franchise, as their new song “Powered Up” will be included on the Madden NFL 21 soundtrack. Madden NFL is the longest-running video game franchise in EA SPORTS’ history, and the company makes sure the soundtracks to these games are loaded with energetic songs to give you an extra boost to charge onwards. As the title suggests, “Powered Up” is perfectly designed to energize you as you pound the digital gridiron. The track distorts a squiggly synth line into a weird hook for EarthGang to rap atop. In the background, there’s lots of hazy electron...

R. Kelly’s Manager Charged With Placing Threatening Call to Theater Screening Abuse Documentary

The manager of R. Kelly was charged Friday (Aug. 14) for allegedly making a threatening phone call to a Manhattan theater that was screening a docuseries about the sex abuse allegations against the musician. Donnell Russell, 45, was charged in two counts with threatening physical harm by interstate communication, and conspiracy to do the same, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Southern District of New York. Multiple victims featured in the docuseries were to attend the event. Surviving R. Kelly explores allegations that Kelly engaged in abusive sexual relationships with minor girls and adult women.
