I Have Expensive Taste and a High-Street Budget—So, I Shop at Uniqlo

Ask me any day of the week which high street store I actually buy the most pieces from and the answer might surprise you: Uniqlo. Sure, Zara has its trend strengths, H&M stocks everything you could imagine, the quality at COS or Arket is unmistakable, M&S can be relied upon for wardrobe staples, and there’s always something fun to find at River Island… but in terms of the affordable brand that has held the most reliable, long-lasting position in my wardrobe (and is worn by me on the regular), it’s Japanese-born Uniqlo. I have pieces that date way back—a coat from the first Jil Sander +J collection (2009!), a printed co-ord from the range created with Celia Birtwell (2013) and basics like HEATTECH roll-necks that I’ve also owned f...

All Our Editors Love This High-Street Jacket, and It’s Finally Back in Stock

Coming in a handful of cool colourways—currently black, beige, red, light blue, green and lilac—this blazer has certainly earned its reputation for being a classic wardrobe staple, especially since it’s pretty darn seasonlesss and available to buy at Arket year-round. A popular versatile styling hack is to throw it over a simple jeans and T-shirt look, but I’ve also seen other fashion editors styling theirs over midi, maxi and mini dresses, with leggings and knee-high boots, or with the matching Hopsack trousers for a polished suit finish. It truly comes into its own in autumn, though. Mine are from a few years ago now and I still wear both colours on repeat all season, usually with a thin cashmere knit either under it or tied around my shoulders, ...

Zara Just Released Its Most French-Girl Collection Yet

If you’re not fully familiar with Emmanuelle Alt, her name probably at least rings a bell. Alt served as the editor in chief of Vogue Paris for 10 years, departing last spring. Alt, who now focuses on styling, has a pared-down aesthetic when it comes to her own personal style, and is known for her impeccable wardrobe of neutral basics. When she wears trends, they’re subtle and timeless, like an oversize leather jacket or navy blazer. My point in telling you all of this is that Alt and Zara just released their second collection together (the first came in July), with Alt serving as a creative consultant. The name of the new collection is called Into the Classics, and it contains a plethora of timeless pieces with Alt’s signature French twist. It...

M&S Does the Very Best Jumpers, and These 22 Prove It

Now it’s pretty much November, temperatures are no doubt going to start plummeting. But the upside to this is that we get to wrap ourselves up in fabulous knitwear for the foreseeable. Brits have long relied on M&S for its excellent knitwear selection and this year, it’s better than ever, with plenty of beautiful jumpers and cardigans to choose from. M&S is particularly known for its cashmere crew-necks and roll-necks, and it’s added some amazing colours to its classic arsenal, including bright tangerine, ombre styles and hot pink. When it comes to classic knitwear styles, you really can’t beat a chunky cable-knit jumper. Or, if you’re looking for a statement piece, something slightly festive or just a simple jumper you can rely on every day,...

& Other Stories Just Dropped Its Latest Designer Collab—and We’re Obsessed

Luckily for us fashion fans this new collection has a more purse-friendly price point, but the designs could easily have walked straight off the label’s latest catwalk. It may have only just launched, but our editor in chief, Hannah Almassi, managed to get herself a sneak preview of the collection in person before it dropped and can confirm the quality and fabrics also feel incredibly premium (something that can often go awry with designer-high street co-labs, we’ll admit). Unsurprisingly the collection is already flying off the shelves, so we’ve added every piece below for you to shop swiftly if you’re looking to bag yourself a piece of A.W.A.K.E MODE’s beautiful designs for less. We’re predicting the epic faux fur coat and knitted dresses will be especially big hits. Keep scro...

I Just Tried On the 7 Most Expensive-Looking Pieces on the High Street

I am a firm believer in investing in beautiful pieces for your wardrobe that will not only bring you joy but also last you from season to season. When we think of investment buys, it’s often items with a large price tag that come to mind, as well as classically chic designers such as Celine, Totême and The Row, to name a few. These brands are well-known for their timeless cuts and shapes, and they tend to stick to a muted colour palette, too. While I can appreciate the beauty of such pieces, as you may well already know, my style is far from minimalist, so for me, an investment buy isn’t always restricted to a beautifully cut black blazer or camel coat. I believe investment pieces can be statement pieces, too, which is why some of my most stand-out dresses and&nb...

The High-Street Cardigans to Have on Hand This October

Out of all our knitwear options, cardigans arguably have the greatest nostalgic associations, and while they might remind us of our school days, 2022‘s high-street iterations are anything but childish. The ideal throw-on layer for the changeable British weather, I’ve been wearing mine when sat at my desk and in need of warming or an extra layer, or when the temperature drops in the evening. These H&M Jumpers Are Raking In the Five-Star Reviews

Few high street brands have a hold on us like H&M. Season after season, year after year, the Scandinavian giant continues to impress us with their offering of elevated, good quality, yet affordable hits that become firm favourites in our wardrobes. This autumn, this statement rings particularly true thanks to its sensationally good knitwear offering. Frequently racking up 5 star customer reviews, and with a huge variety of styles, fabrications and colours, H&M’s knitwear selection is, without a doubt, one of the best on the high street. And the cherry on top of it’s cosy cake this year is its best-selling oversized polo neck, a jumper I just so happen to own and very much love.  As a summer dress obsessive (and a June baby), my friends, family and colleagues have had...

35 New M&S, Zara and Mango Pieces You’ll Wear All the Time This Autumn

Can you feel it? The shift in seasons is definitely underway, which means our minds and our wardrobes are finally on the same page. So, let’s talk about autumn. Knitwear, leather, denim on denim, chunky boots—the fashion potential that autumn unlocks never fails to give us a thrill, and we’ve been busy shaping what we want our style to look like this season for weeks, okay, maybe even months.  In doing so, however, we’ve realised that we have some holes in our line-up that could do with filling. From knitwear that’s starting to look past its sell-by to coats that don’t boast quite the same silhouette as they did a few years previously, chances are you may find a few key items in your autumn fashion arsenal that need updating, too. And where better to look for these piec...

I’ve Assembled 4 Stylish Autumn Outfits Entirely From M&S

Whether you’re a tailored minimalist, print-loving expressionist or something in between, M&S is guaranteed to have a piece that will speak your language, and that’s before we even get to the dozens of premium brands that are now also shoppable on the site and in-store. (We’re looking at you, Jaeger.) To help to inspire your seasonal wardrobe refresh, I’ve put together four outfits from the brand’s autumn drop that will cover you for everything from lazy weekends to a busy week in the office, and in each outfit, you’ll find a hard-working staple like the Oxford shirt; a buzzier, now-trending piece like knee-high boots; and the must-have accessory that M&S is becoming known for (talk about a well-rounded war...

From Mango to H&M—the High-Street Brands We Always Bookmark for Black Friday

As more brands have sales throughout the entire month, Black Friday should now probably be renamed Black November. As we wait for the official moment when the discounts start to kick in and the best clothing deals begin, we’re already thinking about how to shop the deals that hit the high street with a calm head and a cool, considered approach. So as always, we’re only here to talk about the crème de la crème. You know, those premium-looking pieces that have an air of high-end but still keep the high street price tag. And if our favourite affordable brands—that’s the likes of H&M, Mango, & Other Stories and Arket—have added discounts, you can get these gems for even less.  With H&M’s wool coats, Mang...
