When it comes to shopping edits, I always feel like less is more (which is why I stick to 9 items in my weekly new-in update). It can be all too easy to feel overwhelmed by the hundreds of items on offer online, whether it’s designer, high-street or even vintage retailers. So, this week, I decided to give you a top-line summary of the 5—yes just 5—items H&M has really nailed this week. I tried to focus on pieces that have a certain premium finish or silhouette, or spring staples that you’ll wear on repeat this season. They’re undeniably versatile and a year-round staple. Okay, maybe you wouldn’t choose them on the hottest day in August, but they’re perfect for spring when all you need to wear with them is a crisp white shirt or T-shirt and a trench or light spring jacket. Come autumn just add knits and in winter they become the perfect party pants. They may be an investment but once you find the perfect style, at least you can be sure you’ll get your money’s worth out of them. These days leather trousers come in all shapes and sizes— from straight-leg to wide-leg, plus size and petite. And not just black leather either, there’s also creamy beiges and shades of green for spring. Most high street retailers (and a lot of designers) have at ...
The luxurious fine wool is widely considered a wardrobe classic thanks to its high quality, warmth and super-soft texture, but it’s also most often associated with inaccessibly high prices. I’m here to prove that not all cashmere comes at designer price points, though. We’ve reported before on the joys of M&S and other high-street cashmere, but my favourite after a decade as a stylist has to be H&M’s. It does excellent classics like crew-neck jumpers, but it also thinks outside the box in terms of design, so you can find things like cashmere leggings, shorts and wide-leg trousers on offer. This is comfort but done in a seriously elevated way. And price-wise? Most cashmere pieces on H&M’s site fall into the premium edit, which me...
Scrolling continuously through the new-in sections of the digital high street has been useful in getting an idea of what’s out there. There’s often a lot more choice online these days, and a lot more diverse options, too. But nothing really compares to seeing pieces in real life, feeling the fabrics and trying them on ourselves before we give you our verdicts and recommendations. That’s why over the past couple of weeks all of the Who What Wear UK editors have been popping into the biggest high street destinations— from H&M to M&S, Mango to Arket— and reporting back on what we’ve found. There’s been some real hits, and a few pieces we’ve admittedly left the shops with for ourselves. So, with March arriving and spring very much on the horizon, we thought it ...
Our aim on Who What Wear UK throughout February was to cut through the noise of the busy high street and really focus in on the coolest, most exciting buys that are truly worth your money for the new season ahead. Because let’s face it, there’s a lot out there to choose from. Between the high street, designer second-hand and independent brands popping up, it can be difficult to pinpoint what to get from where, and which pieces will make a difference to your current collection. If the last month of analysing the new spring drops from the trusty British high street has taught us anything, though, it’s that it is still worth your consideration. Especially if you’re looking for trend led options to dip your toe into before investing more heavily in, or more affordable options of classic ...
January and February are notoriously tough months to get through for many reasons, not least the miserable weather. But the good news is you’ve made it! March is here, and I think I speak for us all when I say we’re ready to put grey days behind us and enter spring with a refreshed approach to our wardrobes and the year ahead. It may still feel a little chilly in the air now, but by the end of the month, we’ll have officially passed the first day of the new season (the 20th, if you were wondering), and the clocks will have gone forward once again (the best day of the whole year, in my opinion). With these changes comes an injection of new-season fashion to look forward to as well. Fresh drops are already arriving from both the ...
Let’s cut to the chase here: & Other Stories’s spring collection is here and, I have to say, it’s looking pretty damn premium. And this is coming from someone who spends their life scrolling through the new-in sections of online stores. Let me tell you why: Firstly, the tailoring. I am, admittedly, a bit of a tailoring fiend, and you will always find me lurking around the blazers at any given store, however & Other Stories’s spring offerings are looking particularly noteworthy. This brown iteration is a highlight, with its cinching belt and slightly oversized fit; just add the matching waistcoat and trousers for a serious power suit ensemble. I never thought I’d see the day that would COS include neon in its new season collection, yet the brand’s spring drop arrived last week, and alongside its classic offering of neutrals, there was a generous dose of highlighter hues. And you know what? It looked pretty damn cool. It’s yet another example of how the brand has been adapting to the modern fashion market in recent years, cleverly harnessing its minimalist credentials to deliver collections that feel fresh yet not at all faddy. I consistently peruse Zara while doing market research for various stories. That said, I scroll through the dozens of pages and end up shopping a little bit for myself. I always make sure to share my great finds with my equally Zara-obsessed colleagues who, naturally, approve of my picks (and can often persuade me to hit purchase). However, I don’t have the money or the room in my wardrobe to buy it all, so getting it out of my system by sharing my latest finds here. I spent a few hours navigating the entire site, from new arrivals to sale items that are shockingly still in stock. If you’re in the mood to shop but don’t have time to search through hundreds of items like I do, you’ve come to the right place. From a kelly-green pliss...
The premium basics are what really shine, from the mock-neck sweater every fashion editor I know owns, to their perfect denim offering (the Favourite cut is my go-to). But there are also some great standout pieces like which look much more expensive than their under £75 price tag. Keep scrolling, then, and you’ll see my edit of the best fashion editor–approved & Other Stories pieces under £75, that will see you through to spring and beyond. For the try-on, I headed straight to Edinburgh’s St. James Quarter, home to one of the biggest Zara stores in the UK. The shopping centre itself has had a recent facelift—one five years in the making—and the Zara store is an entirely new entity within it. It’s beautiful. Get there early enough, and it looks more akin to a gallery space than a shop floor. I was immediately struck by the colour upon entering. So much colour! Saturated shades as far as the eye could see, an excessive amount of which were green. Great if that’s what you’re into, intimidating if it’s not. As someone who usually sticks to a palette of neutrals, I wondered if I had made a mistake in choosing Zara for my try-on. However, as I navigated through a maze of neon, more trends became present. ...
It won’t come as a surprise, then, to know that we keep a constant close eye on M&S’s new-in section. Mostly so we can keep you in the loop on the best things that we find, but also to fuel our own personal shopping habits too! So with spring on the horizon and that difficult transitional weather approaching, it seemed like the perfect time to head into the store and try on the best pieces I could find from the newest collections. By the time I had finished browsing everything in store, from the new Autograph collection (always the most expensive-looking) to the new ‘The Edit’ section, my trolley was overflowing with perfect spring basics. I ended up assembling the TK outfits you’ll see below— all super easy to style, comfy and ideal for wearing right now and through spring. Highlights...
