King Buffalo Unveil New Song “Hours” Ahead of New Album Regenerator: Stream

King Buffalo have shared the video for “Hours,” the latest single from their forthcoming album Regenerator arriving September 2nd. The Rochester, New York-based band continues to dish out explorative heavy psych at an elite level, and “Hours” is another surging groover. The pocketed krautrock drum beat guides this one ahead while fuzzed guitars and echoed vocals fill out the soundscape. The new song follows the previously released lead single and title track “Regenerator.” The band has been working at a prolific rate, having released an EP in 2020 and two full-lengths last year — one of which was recorded in an underground cave. <span class="localtime" data-ltformat="F j, Y | g:ia" data-lttime="2021-05-27T16:00:52+00:00“>May 27, 2021 | 12:00pm ET Heavy psych act King Buffalo are set to release The Burden of Restlessness on June 4th — the first of three full-length albums they have planned for 2021. Ahead of the first LP, the Rochester, New York, trio is premiering the video for the single “Silverfish” exclusively via Heavy Consequence. Stoner rock connoisseurs might be familiar with King Buffalo from their 2016 debut Orion and 2018’s excellent Longing to Be the Mountain. Before the pandemic, the band was active on the Northeast touring circuit, frequently driving down to appear on bills in New York City. It appears all the practicing and live sets paid off — especially if ...

Stöner, Featuring Kyuss’ Brant Bjork and Nick Oliveri, Announce Debut Studio Album Stoners Rule

<span class="localtime" data-ltformat="F j, Y | g:ia" data-lttime="2021-05-21T14:48:12+00:00“>May 21, 2021 | 10:48am ET Stöner, a new project from former Kyuss members Brant Bjork and Nick Oliveri, have announced their debut album, Stoners Rule. The seven-song LP arrives June 25th via Heavy Psych Sounds, and has been preceded by the single “Nothin’”. Kyuss are considered pioneers of the desert/stoner rock style, and Oliveri and Bjork are fully embracing the “stoner” tag with their new outfit, hence the band’s name. The single “Nothin’” dabbles in sludgy riffs, meditative repetition, and a general 420-friendliness. The desertscape on the album cover also calls back to Kyuss’ legendary 1992 album, Blues for the Red Sun. In addition t...

Monster Magnet Announce Covers Album A Better Dystopia, Share “Mr. Destroyer” (Poo-Bah): Stream

Heavy psych rockers Monster Magnet have announced a new covers album, A Better Dystopia, out May 21st. As a preview, the band has shared a ripping version of Poo-Bah’s “Mr. Destroyer”. The 13-song tracklist showcases Monster Magnet’s esoteric knowledge of obscure psych rock. They take on Hawkwind (“Born to Go”), cult NYC heavy psych act Dust (“Learning to Die”)”, The Pretty Things (“Death”), and The Scientists (“Solid Gold Hell”), among other relatively obscure gems. The idea for the covers album came after Monster Magnet’s European “Powertrip” tour was halted in February of 2020 when the pandemic hit. To occupy the downtime, the band set out to record a DIY album rather than play streaming shows or sell merch. “We all agreed that we would be bored out of our minds within a month of lockdo...

King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard Launch Bootleg Program

Typically, when jam bands figure out that fans are making unofficial bootlegs of their live shows, they look the other way. But King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard have introduced a different approach: they’re not only granting fans the go-ahead to bootleg, but also giving them all of the tools to do so. The Australian psych-rock crew has just launched a new portion of their website called “Bootlegger” where they’ve uploaded the master recordings of nine albums and are encouraging anyone who’s interested to re-release them however they see fit. Most of the records are live albums and demo comps that they’ve released on their Bandcamp throughout the year, but there’s also a new rarities album called Teenage Gizzard and their 2017 full-length Polygondwanaland, which they initia...
