Tommy Lee Exits Mötley Crüe’s Reunion Tour Kickoff Five Songs into Set Due to Broken Ribs: Watch

It took Mötley Crüe six and a half years to return to the stage, but drummer Tommy Lee only lasted five songs during the band’s reunion tour kickoff in Atlanta on Thursday night (June 16th). Lee explained from the stage that he recently had broken his ribs and that he wouldn’t be able to continue the concert. In his place, Ozzy Osbourne drummer Tommy Clufetos stepped in to complete the gig. The fact that Clufetos was in the building likely meant that Lee probably knew he’d have a hard time finishing the set. According to Ultimate Classic Rock and fan video footage posted to Twitter (see below), Lee told the crowd, “We did it! You did it, we did it, we’re f**king here,” alluding to the fact that the Crüe’s co-headlining “Stadium Tour” with Def Leppard had finally kicked off after a two-year...

Anthrax’s Frank Bello Announces Debut Solo EP Then I’m Gone

Anthrax bassist Frank Bello has announced his debut solo EP, Then I’m Gone, arriving November 4th. The release is a personal one for Bello, who played every instrument (except drums) on the EP’s three core tracks: “Then I’m Gone,” “It Won’t Be Long,” and “See Me Now.” He also scored and played additional narrative pieces that see Bello reading excerpts from his 2021 autobiography, Fathers, Brothers, and Sons: Surviving Anguish, Abandonment, and Anthrax. “I revisited some really dark times in my life when I was writing my book, and writing these songs was the result of reliving them,” said Bello via a press release. “Music has always been a great outlet for me as a coping mechanism. I felt it was a good time to put out these songs for people who connected with the book and maybe some who ha...

Lzzy Hale Shares Heartfelt Message for Pride Month: “I’m Unapologetically Bisexual”

Lzzy Hale has shared a powerful and personal message in celebration of Pride Month. The Halestorm singer-guitarist wrote on Instagram, “I’m unapologetically bisexual,” after mentioning that she hid her “bisexuality for a long time.” While it’s not the first time that Lzzy has spoken about being bisexual, her new social post served as a direct message to her fans about embracing their sexuality. Last year, during a Twitter Q&A session, when a fan mentioned that it was not easy living as a gay man in the Bahamas, Lzzy responded, “You are living your truth … and that’s all that matters. I’m a bi gal in an 18-year relationship with a man. We write our own stories, my dear.” Lzzy, who has been in a long-term relationship with Halestorm guitarist Joe Hottinger, took to Instagram on Wednesday...

Ozzy Osbourne Is “Doing Well and On the Road to Recovery” After Surgery to “Determine the Rest of His Life”

Ozzy Osbourne takes a licking but keeps on ticking. The Prince of Darkness is “doing well and on the road to recovery” following major surgery, reports his wife and manager, Sharon Osbourne. Last week, Sharon revealed that Ozzy was set to undergo a “very major operation” on Monday (June 13th) that was “really going to determine the rest of his life.” It is assumed that the surgery was related to correcting structural damage that the metal icon had suffered in a fall in early 2019. At the time, Ozzy dislodged metal rods and pins that were placed in his body after a 2003 ATV accident. The singer himself had recently mentioned that a previous surgeon “f**ked up” and that he needed additional neck surgery, as he couldn’t “walk properly these days.” In a statement posted to Twitter on Tuesday (...

Zeal & Ardor’s Manuel Gagneux Launches Yacht Rock Side-Project Soft Captain, Shares “Too Long”: Stream

We didn’t see this coming: Zeal & Ardor mastermind Manuel Gagneux has unveiled a yacht rock side-project called Soft Captain. The group has offered up the vintage-looking video for the song “Too Long.” Heavy Consequence readers might be familiar with Gagneux from his work in Zeal & Ardor, who we’ve championed time and again on the site. Considering the heavy avant-metal nature of that project, it’s quite a surprise seeing Gagneux wearing a Jimmy Buffett-style sailor hat and singing soft rock. “I have also a Yacht Rock band now,” Gagneux commented in a social media announcement. “Make of that what you will.” Advertisement Related Video It’s a testament to his versatility as a vocalist — a central element to both Zeal & Ardor and Soft Captain. On “Too Long,” Gagneux provides...

Robert Fripp and Toyah Take on Rage Against the Machine’s “Killing in the Name”: Watch

Even Robert Fripp and Toyah Willcox are psyched for Rage Against the Machine’s long-awaited reunion tour. The married musical couple take on “Killing in the Name” for their latest “Sunday Lunch” performance, which comes less than a month from the kickoff of RATM’s first tour in more than a decade. A few days ago, RATM themselves got us pumped up for the tour by posting a new rehearsal clip of the band performing “War Within a Breath.” The tour launches July 9th in East Troy, Wisconsin, with tickets available here. Now, King Crimson guitarist Fripp and his singer wife, Toyah, are jumping on the RATM train with a rendition of the classic “Killing in the Name.” In the clip, Toyah wears a sheer top with heart-shaped pasties, as she gradually smears red paint over her stomach and arms. 9-Year-Old Girl Masters Tool’s Complex 15-Minute Song “7empest” on Guitar: Watch

Tool’s complex 15-minute opus “7empest” is a difficult cover for anyone to attempt. Don’t tell that to 9-year-old guitar shredder Maya Neelakantan. In the YouTube clip, Neelakantan puts on a Nandi Bushell-esque display of talent as she expertly darts around the fretboard. Adam Jones wrote some deft guitar parts for the Fear Inoculum track, and it appears he has a worthy understudy in Neelakantan, if ever needed. She even emulates his wah pedal footwork. As she explains in the introduction to the video, Maya was inspired to play her “most favorite song” after receiving a brand new Gibson Les Paul guitar for her ninth birthday last month. Of note, Jones famously plays a Les Paul and even has his own line of signature models with Gibson. Advertisement Related Video “This is my most favorite s...

Rise Against Surprise Release New EP Nowhere Generation II, Share “Last Man Standing” Video: Stream

Rise Against have surprise released a new EP titled Nowhere Generation II, along with the video for the track “Last Man Standing.” The EP is a companion release to last year’s Nowhere Generation full-length album and contains new material, including the aforementioned single “Last Man Standing.” The song features passionately sung vocals and narrative lyrical content, with an underbelly of surging guitars. The video is also quite entertaining, as the band and others attempt to escape the pinpoint accuracy of a long-range female archer. Advertisement “‘Last Man Standing’ was a way of expressing some frustration with our world in regards to exploitation, public alienation and human inequality,” explains director Ryan Valdez. “As you see in the video, we are fed through this race of survival....

Ozzy Osbourne to Undergo Surgery That Will “Determine the Rest of His Life”

Ozzy Osbourne is set to undergo an operation on Monday (June 13th) that will “determine the rest of his life,” reports his wife and manager, Sharon Osbourne. Sharon revealed the news on her UK show The Talk (not affiliated with the US show of the same name from which she was ousted last year), telling her fellow panelists, “[Ozzy] has a very major operation on Monday, and I have to be there. It’s really going to determine the rest of his life.” She added that she would be flying back to Los Angeles to be by Ozzy’s side. While Sharon did not go into specifics, Ozzy himself mentioned late last year that he needed one more operation on his neck after the previous surgeon “f**ked up.” The metal icon injured himself in a 2019 fall at home, dislodging metal rods that were inserted into his body ...
