Under terms of the pact, which reportedly spans five years and is valued at mid-eight figures, Martin will develop new programming for both HBO and HBO Max. Already, HBO has six — count ’em, six — Game of Thrones spinoffs in the works. House of the Dragon, which will tell the story of House Targaryen, is furthest into development with filming scheduled to kick off next month. HBO is developing three additional Game of Thrones spinoffs, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Two of the prequels have the working titles of 9 Voyages and 10,000 Ships, respectively. 9 Voyages is centered around Lord Corlys Velaryon, a.k.a. The Sea Snake, the Lord of the Tides and head of House Velaryon. Velaryon also appears in the previously announced House of the Dragon, in which he’s played by Steve Toussaint. 10,000 Ships is about warrior queen Princess Nymeria, an ancestor of House Martell who founded the kingdom of Dorne. Two characters in the original series, Sand Snake Nymeria Sand and Arya’s direwolf, bore her name. The untitled drama is based on Jeff Pearlman’s non-fiction account Showtime: Magic, Kareem, Riley, and the Los Angeles Lakers Dynasty of the 1980s. Max Borenstein adapted the book for television, and serves as executive producer alongside Adam McKay, who was tapped to direct the pilot.
