September 26th is the anniversary of Outbreak Day within the world of The Last of Us, and HBO is celebrating with an official teaser trailer that offers a hint of the upcoming horrors. The television adaptation of the beloved video game franchise stars Pedro Pascal as smuggler Joel, Bella Ramsey as teenage girl Ellie, plus Gabriel Luna, Nick Offerman, and more. It’s due out sometime in 2023, and the new teaser gives just a taste of why this could be one of the most expensive series ever made. As Hank Williams’ “Alone and Forsaken” rattles in the background, the preview shows not just a couple of sets, but an expansive dystopian world as humans struggle to contain a dangerous infection: Makeshift cities, vast explosions, green fields, frozen wastelands, and for a few hai...
HBO is developing a sequel to their 2019 docuseries The Case Against Adnan Syed, leading up to and following the infamous Serial subject’s release from prison. The Case Against Adnan Syed explores Syed’s conviction after his ex-girlfriend Hae Min Lee went missing and was subsequently found dead in 1999. The smash true crime podcast Serial reignited interest in the case, which is garnering media attention again this week after a Baltimore City judge vacated Syed’s conviction and ordered his release from prison. Prosecutors are still deciding if they want to try Syed again after new information was found suggesting the involvement of two more suspects in Lee’s murder: “The State no longer has confidence in the integrity of the conviction,” said Baltimore State’s Attorney Maril...
A viral trailer that purports to announce the return of beloved HBO comedy Eastbound & Down is fake, Consequence can confirm. Danny McBride’s cult classic about a former baseball player ran for four seasons between 2009 and 2013, before McBride moved on to other projects, including Vice Principles and The Righteous Gemstones. But demand for more Eastbound & Down remains high, as evidenced by the hoax Season 5 announcement, which amassed tens of thousands of likes, retweets, and comments in a matter of hours. An unverified account with the handle @KennyPowers — the same name as McBride’s character — shared the fake trailer in a tweet on September 6th. “THE PITCH IS BACK,” it read, promising, “One more inning” in “2024.” But no such p...
HBO has officially renewed Curb Your Enthusiasm for a 12th season. The news is hardly surprising, as Larry David confirmed his return earlier this year. However, given the state of flux at HBO following the merger of Warner Bros. and Discovery, nothing is a given these days. Fortunately, on Tuesday HBO issued a press release confirming Curb’s impending return. “Larry outdoes himself season after season and always manages to come back when the audience needs him most,” Amy Gravitt, Executive Vice President of HBO Programming, said in a statement. “We’re thrilled for him, Jeff Schaffer, and our phenomenal cast to continue making us laugh and cringe in equal measure.” Related Video David issued his own statement reacting to today’s announcement: “Playing the role of Larry David has been the g...

HBO is shelving a lot of its original content as of late, but fortunately those cost cutting measures won’t impact Nathan Fielder’s brilliant series, The Rehearsal. Ahead of tonight’s season one finale, HBO has handed down a season two order for The Rehearsal. Not surprisingly, the network didn’t offer any sort of preview of what Fielder might have in story, because even they are in the dark. “We have no idea where season 2 will take us, and that is the delight of this boundary pushing show from a truly singular talent,” said Amy Gravitt, Executive Vice President, HBO Programming, in a statement. Advertisement Related Video In our review of the early episodes of The Rehearsal’s first season, Robert Ham said the show cemented Fielder’s status as a comic visionary. “There aren’t many shows, ...
How does HBO feel about superhero movies? Well, one week after parent company Warner Bros. Discovery canceled the HBO Max-exclusive Batgirl film, the network has ordered The Franchise, a comedy series from Armando Iannucci that satirizes the making of a superhero flick. Written by Iannucci, Jon Brown, and Keith Akushie, The Franchise follows a movie crew hoping to make the next superhero blockbuster. Of course, now more than ever, we know that whether such a film will flop or flourish is not just about the story, but about the desires of a money-hungry industry. Brown serves as executive producer and showrunner of the series, and Marina Hyde is attached as another writer and executive producer. Sam Mendes is set to direct the pilot. Iannucci is no stranger to satir...

A release date for the series has yet to be announced. The Palace marks the first collaboration between Winslet and Frears, who’s directed such films as Dangerous Liaisons and High Fidelity. More recently, he helmed the British series State of the Union — another project written by High Fidelity author Nick Hornby. As for Tracy, the writer (best known these days for his work ...
