Last week, Warner Bros. announced plans to simultaneously release all 17 of their 2021 titles (The Matrix 4, Dune, The Suicide Squad etc.) directly to HBO Max and to theaters. The news sent shockwaves throughout the film industry due to the drastic consequences it will have not just on the existence of movie theaters, but on the entire Hollywood apparatus. Naturally, Christopher Nolan had some opinions on the matter. On November 1st, Chappelle’s Show was added to Netflix’s library. Now, less than a month later, it’s been removed from the platform — at the request of Dave Chappelle himself. In a lengthy Instagram video, the comedian claimed that he hasn’t been properly paid for his work on the iconic sketch series, and that he was never consulted about Netflix’s streaming deal. In the 18-minute clip titled “Unforgiven”, Chappelle asserted that he “never got paid” after departing Chappelle’s Show. The 47-year-old comedian also alleged that ViacomCBS, the company which owns the show, never reached out to him regarding licensing the series to Netflix. “They [ViacomCBS] didn’t have to pay me because I signed the contract,” Chappelle said in the video, which compiles footage from recent stand-up gi...

According to The Daily Beast, Season 2’s sixth episode, “The Internet & Moment in the Life of Lil Jon”, was indeed left off of the streaming services because of a cameo from former adult film star Ron Jeremy. It’s worth noting that all of these titles will be non-exclusive to HBO Max, which explains why Chappelle’s Show is also coming to Netflix starting November 1st. These titles are also available on ViacomCBS’s own streaming platform, CBS All Access, which will be rebranded as Paramount+ in 2021. According to The Hollywood Reporter, at some point ViacomCBS inte...
