Hayley Williams Rips Former Paramore Bandmate Over Homophobic Comments

Paramore singer Hayley Williams hasn’t been afraid to speak up in the past, so it should come as no surprise that she didn’t mince words when it came to a former bandmate. In a post that had been circulating on Facebook, ex-Paramore guitarist Josh Farro made homophobic comments that compared homosexuality to pedophilia. Williams didn’t take too kindly to hearing about that. In a post of her own, the singer ripped the guitarist, who left the band in 2010. “there’s a reason there are only 3 people left in @paramore,” she said in a tweet. “surprise, haters, it ain’t cause of me. paramore do not condone religiously/politically dogmatic beliefs which leave our LGBTQ+ friends, fans, & family feeling abandoned and hopeless.” You can see the full thread with Williams’ comments below. and ya kn...

Hayley Williams to Release Petals for Armor: Self-Serenades EP

Hayley Williams released her first solo album, Petals for Armor, earlier this year. With 2020 taking twists and turns all over the place, it makes sense that the Paramore singer threw a curveball of her own: a new EP. Titled Petals for Armor: Self-Serenades, the three-song collection will feature a pair of acoustic songs and an unreleased tune titled “Find Me Here.” Williams announced the news of her new EP on Instagram on Tuesday. “survived 2020 thanks to self-serenades 🌺,” she said. Also this year, Williams ranked her favorite Paramore songs, covered Radiohead and a whole lot more. The EP is out on Dec. 18. Preorder Self-Serenades here. Check out the tracklisting below. 1. Simmer (Acoustic)2. Why We Ever (Acoustic)3. Find Me Here You Deserve to Make Money Even When...

Hayley Williams Plays Radiohead’s ‘Fake Plastic Trees’ For Her Last ‘Self-Serenade’ Cover

Hayley Williams’ self-serenade Instagram series has undoubtedly been a bright spot in a pretty gloomy year, but all good things must come to an end (“for a while, anyway”). On Friday, the Paramore singer shared “the last of the self-serenades for a while, anyway” with a beautifully vulnerable cover of Radiohead’s “Fake Plastic Trees.” After revealing that “the top requested song” throughout her “self-serenadism” was by Radiohead, Williams admitted it “seemed sacrilegious at first until i realized that the band themselves have never once regarded what they do as precious or never-to-be-toyed with” via Instagram. “they are never beholden to any one version of their expression and public affections don’t...

Hayley Williams Urges Out-of-Towners Not to Come to Nashville As COVID-19 Cases Spike

As COVID-19 cases continue to rise in Nashville, Hayley Williams is urging for any out-of-towners who want to visit Music City to think twice. “Please don’t come to Nashville. Plan your bachelorette party somewhere else this time,” she said in one of her Instagram stories, referring to the fact that Nashville is a top destination for those celebrations. “Tourists, people from out of town, are coming in and crawling up and down Lower Broadway taking shots to terrible music,” she said. “I just don’t understand what the governor or the mayor are doing. So here I am bitching on Instagram.” Williams continued her critique of how the state and local governments have been handling the situation in Nashville. “Our governor, our mayor, our local officials will not list...

Hayley Williams has been gifting us with all sorts of covers during quarantine, but on Sunday the Paramore singer decided to use the latest installment of her “self-serenade” Instagram series to play a stripped-down version of one of her own solo songs — “Simmer” — on her back porch. “this song came out 6 hundred years ago, b.c. (corona) but i still love it and it keeps evolving. ‘SIMMER,’” she captioned the video. “thanks for listening to me sing to myself all these months. i have really enjoyed sharing lil glimpses into my solitude like this. hope you’re stayin safe and allowing yourself some peace in your own solitude.” She then gave a shout out to her adorable dog that makes a cameo in the clip: “oh yeah, Alf says ...

Hayley Williams Stands ‘to Protect Womxn and Young Folx in the Music Scene’

Following recent sexual misconduct accusations against Burger Records and musicians coming forward about their experiences with abuse, Hayley Williams could not longer be silent. Last night (July 20), Williams posted a long note about her feelings toward sexism and misogyny in the industry, highlighting the “collective cause” of protecting “womxn and young folx in the music scene.” “It makes my stomach hurt and my eyes red,” she wrote of the abuse allegations. “It’s so crazy to me how frontwomxn can be such powerful inspiration [sic] to so many young people, who see us as very much ‘in control’ of ourselves and our immediate surroundings when we’re up on a stage.” Williams also pointed out while womxn are “vulnerable,” males are also subject to the same types of abuse. “They are most ...

Hayley Williams Shares Behind-the-Scenes Video for ‘Sugar on the Rim’

Hayley Williams’ Petals for Armor, which was released in May, is one of our favorite albums of the year. Despite having to cancel her the tour for her first solo album, Williams has seemingly remained upbeat in the face of upheaval. The Paramore singer shared a new behind-the-scenes video for “Sugar on the Rim,” which sees her at work in the studio and also relaxing while at home doing things like noshing on mango sorbet, reading lyrics on her laptop and catching some shut-eye. The footage for the song was compiled over different nights and takes ahead of quarantine. In addition to being one of our favorite albums of the year so far, a bunch of the Petals for Armor songs made our list of the 25 best Hayley Williams songs. Check out the video below. Hayley Williams Gets All Carpool Karaoke in ‘Watch Me While I Bloom’ Video

If you’ve ever wanted to see Hayley Williams take on Carpool Karaoke, today’s your lucky day… sort of. This car is actually moving. The Paramore vocalist, whose solo debut is out now, released a DIY-style lyric video for her pop anthem “Watch Me While I Bloom” on Wednesday (May 27). The four-minute clip features Williams in the front seat of a car, bopping to the album cut with seemingly unrehearsed, yet still totally lively, car-seat choreography. She really gets into it, with her beanie completely flying off her head at one point, proving that she’s just as lively in the passenger seat as she is on stage in front of thousands. The clip also cuts to some never-before-seen studio footage, seemingly from the Petals for Armor sessions featuring Vampire Weekend’s touring guitar...

The 50 Best Songs of 2020 (So Far)

Great songs have a freedom that albums don’t because great songs only have to pull off their trick once. It’s like how a great SNL sketch can be a terrible movie or why Vine was an underrated miracle of online comedy. Sometimes an artist can get a lot more done in miniature. When people say that no one listens to albums anymore, they’re obviously mistaken, but they mean that no one listens to certain kinds of albums anymore. They won’t wait to get to the good part, and an industry that’s been padding out their wares for decades has had to adapt to a new reality where the customer is always dope. From Hailey Whitters to Hayley Williams, from King Von to Christine and the Queens, here’s a supercut of just the good parts: The songs that have challenged and delighted and comforted us through a...

The 30 Best Albums of 2020 (So Far)

On one hand, who can think about stuff as trivial as this? On the other, what else is there to do? If art was made to fill a cultural vacuum, well… now’s the fucking time, buddy. Hopefully, you’ve been binging every show, reading every book, repainting every bathroom you’ve been putting off. Hopefully, when (and if) we make it out of quarantine alive, we’ll be able to look forward to better things. For now, we still have music. Some of the great albums and EPs below demand your full and undivided attention. Some of them demand to intensify your workout or gaming session. Mostly they just sound good, and you should pair them with whatever activities music enhances for you. Even sleep; lord knows that could be improved upon. Others will keep you wide awake. If any of these albums make you th...
