Pirate, a network of 24-hour music studios based in London, has teamed up with mental health-driven music community eott and charitable foundation Last Night A DJ Saved My Life to attempt to break the world record for most DJs to play back-to-back. Taking place at Pirate’s Tottenham studio in north London, the event will serve as a fundraiser, with all proceeds benefitting music mental health charity Key Changes. The goal is to raise £5,000 to fund weekly music activities for young mental health patients for a full year. The world’s longest-working DJ is easing into retirement at the end of an illustrious career. Hong Kong’s Ray Cordeiro, a radio DJ with a career spanning an awe-inspiring 70 years, called it quits last month at the age of 96. Cordeiro’s route into radio was a circuitous one, but appreciation for music was something he developed at a very young age. With a brother 10 years his senior, Cordeiro was heavily inspired by his tastes, listening to his brother’s record collection when he wasn’t home.
