The “Grimes Metaverse Super Beta” Discord server is as interesting a place as one might expect. Fans of the enigmatic musician gathered to hear her Splendour XR DJ set over the weekend. Lil Uzi Vert Bought a Planet—Yes, a Planet—Bigger Than Jupiter, According to Grimes

It’s no secret that music artists are known for making outrageous purchases. Just ask Drake, who forked up $395,000 for a mattress made with gold brass and horsehair. It’s tough to keep up with all the hubris and clout-chasing of the music industry’s biggest stars, but the latest acquisition by Lil Uzi Vert is astronomically absurd. You’ll get that pun in a moment. According to Grimes, the Grammy-nominated hip-hop artist has bought a planet—yes, a planet—bigger than Jupiter. She took to Twitter to claim that Uzi will become the first human to legally own a planet after purchasing WASP-127b, a gas giant exoplanet discovered in 2016. Uzi quickly chimed in to clarify the bizarro claim, which is apparently actually coming to fruition. In hi...

Grimes is Judging a New Singing Competition Show—For Digital Avatars

Fox is set to debut a new “avatar singing competition” show this fall, and electronic-pop music star Grimes will be among its various judges. Alter Ego will pit hopeful vocalists against five panelists as they compete to become the next big singing star. The new show will utilize motion capture technology to make each vocalist appear as their “dream avatar,” rendering Alter Ego somewhat of a companion show to Fox’s wildly popular The Masked Singer. Grimes will join will.i.am, Alanis Morissette, and more on the “Alter Ego” judging panel this fall. Eli Russell Linnetz Grimes will join Alanis Morissette, will.i.am, Nick Lachey, and Rosci Diaz on the judging panel as she prepares her next album release, a follow-up to 2020̵...

Grimes Reveals Head-Scratching Album Concept About Interstellar A.I. Romance

Grimes‘ concept for her next album is enough to make your head spin. Back in March, the Canadian electro-pop songstress announced she had been signed to Columbia Records, making an ambiguous mention of a forthcoming “Phase 2” project at the time. Well, it now seems we have some clarity about what she’s been cooking up—but also lots of new questions. We won’t bury the lede on this one, and will let Grimes speak for herself.  “It’s a space opera about Claire De Lune, an artificial courtesan who was implanted in a simulation that is a memory of the A.I. creation story on Earth from the brain of the engineer who invented A.I. because he wants to relive his life but see if his perfect dream girl could team him to love thereby he would preserve humanity this ti...

REZZ and Grimes Are Working on New Music

Anticipation from fans is beginning to grow after REZZ teased new collaborative music with alternative pop star Grimes. In a recent tweet, REZZ informed fans that her next goal is to finally team up with Grimes on an original track. “My focus for the next while is to smash out a song with @Grimezsz,” she wrote. “We WILL get this done !!!!” Grimes, who tapped Space Mom to appear on her Miss Anthropocene (Rave Edition) album for an official remix of “Violence”—her collaborative single with late techno star i_o— responded to the tweet and implied that a collab between the two powerhouses has actually been on the table for a while. “Yes 2 years later we may finally make a thing phew !” Grimes replied. Though two year...

Grimes Plays Princess Peach to Elon Musk’s Wario on Super Mario Themed SNL Skit

Last night, Elon Musk hosted Saturday Night Live to the chagrin of many and for a variety of reasons. While the episode was mostly boring and at times, pretty flat, one somewhat good moment came when Musk’s partner, Grimes, appeared on a Super Mario Bros. courtroom sketch where Wario is on trial for taking out Mario, while Luigi is on the stand. In it, Musk played Super Mario Bros. villain Wario while Grimes popped up as Princess Peach. She had a few lines and was called out for sending an… interesting text message as well. You can check out the skit below. [embedded content] Earlier in the week, Grimes teased and subsequently promised she’d pop on SNL alongside Musk, with whom she shares a child, X Æ A-Xii. Last year, Grimes released her new album,&...

Grimes Signs to Columbia Records, Teases “Phase 2”

Grimes is the latest artist to join the Columbia Records family.  The Canadian artpop superstar took to her social media pages to announce the news of the deal. Alongside a statement thanking fans for their support and confirming the signing, she concluded the posts with “COMMENCE PHASE 2,” leading to much speculation over what she has planned for the future. In addition to the announcement, Grimes also debuted a new website, which hosts nothing more than a sign-up form. While the project remains mysterious, it’s worth noting that the form asks the question, “Are you a player of games?” One can’t help but wonder if this means she will be crossing into the video game world once again. Such a move would not be surprising, as she was prominen...

Nifty Gateway Founders on Why Musicians Should Embrace Digital Art: “EDM Artists Are Just the Perfect Fit for NFTs”

As the latest Bitcoin and cryptocurrency hype cycle has gripped investors and driven a whole new wave of adoption to the space, Duncan and Griffin Cock Foster find themselves at the epicenter. The twin brothers and entrepreneurs have helped spearhead a meteoric trend in the digital asset space with their company Nifty Gateway, a marketplace for digital art and collectibles called NFTs, or non-fungible tokens, which are collectible assets authenticated and secured by blockchain technology. A few years ago, the idea of collectors purchasing digitally minted art pieces to the tune of thousands and sometimes even millions of dollars would have seemed ludicrous. However, as public comfort and interest in blockchain technology has only continued to rise, cultural influencers—especially musicians...

Guesting on the show Rock This with Allison Hagendorf, the drummer also revealed that the band is “60 percent” done and “slowly finishing up this album,” which is the follow-up to 2019’s NINE. He says, “There’s a lot of cool stuff, like a song with Grimes right now that’s really, really cool that I love. There’s a song with Uzi that’s really, really cool that we did with Pharrell.” Barker was on the program alongside rapper-turned-rocker Trippie Redd, to talk about why they HAD to collaborate (most recently with SPIN cover subject Machine Gun Kellly and blackbear) and more. Grimes and Lil Uzi Vert Have Been Working on Music Together

Lil Uzi Vert shocked and excited fans when he revealed that he was working with none other than Grimes – stating that they’re “making hits.” Last year, the synthpop songstress dropped Miss Anthropocene to rave reviews. She followed that up in 2021 with a full remix album featuring numerous high-profile electronic artists, including Richie Hawtin, Tale of Us, and REZZ.  As of the publication of this article, their new music is still very much in production. According to Grimes, they still need to finish the project. In 2019, she shared during an interview with Zane Lowe that she had actually produced one of Lil Uzi’s EPs but sadly, the rapper never downloaded the file.  Stay tuned as more information regarding the collaboration...

Grimes Releases Full “Miss Anthropocene” Remix Album Featuring REZZ, Richie Hawtin, More

With the original album out for nearly a year, electronic music producers have reimagined Grimes‘ Miss Anthropocene from a rave perspective.  The synthpop songstress brought together numerous high-profile electronic artists, including Richie Hawtin, Tale of Us, and REZZ to make her remix album Miss Anthropocene (Rave Edition) a reality. The record is vastly a sonic exploration of the darker, trunk-thumping flavors of techno made possible by a tone-setting opening remix from ANNA and a distortion-heavy take on “My Name Is Dark” by Julien Bracht. Those tracks contrast with the melancholic pop contributions of BloodPop® and Channel Tres, who brilliantly outfit “Delete Forever” with chunky funk bass and disco textures. REZZ’s sp...
