A non-governmental organization, Greater Awka Allies International, GAAI has urged Anambra State government to ensure the protection of children in orphanages as the COVID-19 outbreak persists. The group said children and the elderly are the most vulnerable to the novel Coronavirus, and that children living in orphanages are more vulnerable because they live in a place where they lack parental care. The Lagos State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to the safety of lives of its citizens following the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic. This assertion was made by the Director-General, Lagos State Safety Commission, Mr. Lanre Mojola when issuing additional Occupational Health & Safety Sectoral (OSH) Guidelines on easing of the lockdown of businesses in Lagos State. Lagos State University (LASU) has inaugurated a 21-man Financial Sustainability Committee to evolve strategies to create revenue sources and guarantee the financial sustainability of the institution after the coronavirus pandemic. Ondo discharges five coronavirus patients
Ondo State Government said it has discharged five patients from its Infectious Disease Hospital after they tested negative for COVID-19. The five patients have been receiving treatment for COVID-19 infection. A statement by the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Donald Ojogo, said the discharge of the five patients makes it 11 persons the state government has successfully treated for COVID-19. The statement reads: “This is to announce that five patients of the dreaded corona virus have been treated and discharged. “Against this backdrop, only four active cases are currently being monitored in accordance with prescribed globally-accepted protocols at the Infectious Disease Hospital (IDH)”. Akwa Ibom bans cattle, goats transported from other states
In some new measures to halt the spread of the coronavirus, Governor Udom Emmanuel has banned cattle, goats, and rams from being brought into Akwa Ibom from other Nigerian states. Emmanuel also announced the shutting down of all livestock markets in the state throughout the month of May. “Livestock sellers are advised to sell off their stock and proceed to shut down,” the Secretary to the Akwa Ibom State Government, Emmanuel Ekuwem, said on Monday in a statement issued in Uyo. “Security agencies have been directed to monitor and ensure full compliance. Gombe records first coronavirus death
The Gombe State Government on Monday announced the state’s first coronavirus death. The chairman of the state task force on COVID-19, Idris Mohammed, disclosed this during the daily briefing on the activities of the task force. He said the deceased, a 50-year-old, who had high blood pressure died around 4 p.m. on Sunday from complications related to the COVID-19. According to him, the deceased concealed his health status “but the task force’s attention was called by a neighbour to the deceased who noticed that he was seriously ill upon his return from Bauchi”. Troops kill 17 bandits in Kaduna
No fewer than 17 armed bandits were last Thursday, in Kaduna state, neutralized by troops of the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN). An operation update released on Monday, by the military High Command, through Major General John Enenche, Coordinator of the Defence Media Operations, (CDMO), disclosed that some of the armed bandits also escaped with diverse degrees of gunshot wounds. Rivers governor demolishes two hotels for flouting lockdown order
Rivers state governor Nyesom Wike on Sunday monitored the demolition of two hotels for flouting the state’s lockdown order. This was in line with the state executive order 6, which banned the operation of hotels across the 23 local government areas of the state. The hotels demolished are Prudent Hotel in Eleme and Etemeteh Hotel in Onne. Kano State Government on Sunday said no fewer than 1, 213 Almajiris have been evacuated to their state of origin.
