Austin Butler Opens Up About Waking Up in ‘Terror’ Every Night While Preparing for ‘Elvis’

Austin Butler transformed so completely and convincingly into Elvis Presley while playing the rock n’ roll legend in Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis, it almost seemed effortless. In a new interview with Jimmy Kimmel, however, the 31-year-old actor revealed that it was anything but. Appearing Monday night (Jan. 9) on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Butler opened up about the stresses that came with the two-year process of getting Elvis’ every move, note and mannerism exactly right for the film. “I would usually wake up every day around 3 or 4 in the morning with this terror,” he confessed. “It was just such a daunting thing,” he added. “I really was just guided by my terror.” The Carrie Diaries alum — whose performance is up for best actor at Tuesday night’s (Jan. 10) Golden Globes — also shed some light on the pr...

Brendan Fraser Won’t Attend Golden Globes After Former Head Allegedly Groped Him

While Brendan Fraser is making the award-season circuit in support of his new film, The Whale, he won’t be attending the Golden Globes, telling GQ in a new cover story, “No, I will not participate,” because the former head of the Globes’ Hollywood Foreign Press Association allegedly groped him. Fraser first related this purported sexual assault to GQ  in 2018, saying that Philip Berk, former president of the HFPA, groped him at the Beverly Hills Hotel in 2003. Berk is no longer an HFPA member, but Fraser’s feelings on the organization haven’t softened. “I have more history with the Hollywood Foreign Press Association than I have respect for the Hollywood Foreign Press Association,” Fraser said. “My mother didn’t raise a hypocrite. You can c...

Amid Controversy, 2022 Golden Globes Winners Announced

HipHopWired Featured Video Source: Emma McIntyre / Getty The Golden Globes award found itself the center of controversy over a lack of diversity among its top ranks, prompting NBC to pull the plug on airing the ceremony last year. This year’s event took place behind closed doors and the winners were announced with some historic and notable first-time wins for some. As the Hollywood Foreign Press Association continues to wrestle with its image and revamp itself, the decision to move ahead with the ceremony was done under the veil of separation with no outside press or guests in the building. The event was held at the Beverly Hilton hotel in Los Angeles, Calif. Below is the full winner’s list: MOVIES Best Movie – Drama “The Power of the Dog” Best Movie – Musical or Comedy “West Side Story” B...

‘West Side Story’ Among Big Winners as 2022 Golden Globes Announced at Private Ceremony

The Power of the Dog, West Side Story and Succession were among the winners of the 79th Golden Globe Awards that were announced on Sunday night (Jan. 9) via social media and not, as in years past, as part of a star-studded, boozy, nationally televised gala. This, as much as anything, illustrates the stunning fall from grace experienced over the past year by the organization behind the Globes, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. The group has been on the outs with many in Hollywood since last February, when a series of Los Angeles Times pieces revealed that the collection of L.A.-based journalists for foreign outlets included zero Black members and had engaged in unethical conduct and suspect financial practices. Golden Globes 2022 Winners: The Power of the Dog, West Side Story, Succession Take Top Prizes

The 2022 Golden Globes represented a truly unprecedented moment for the 78-year-old awards ceremony — for one thing, there wasn’t a public ceremony. Instead, in the middle of both a rising Omicron wave and an ongoing existential crisis, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association announced last Thursday that it would announce this year’s winners via social media on the designated night, during a private event. Thus, with pretty much the opposite of fanfare, The Power of the Dog (Drama) and West Side Story (Comedy/Musical) were named the best films of 2021 by HFPA members. On the TV side, Succession, HBO Max’s Hacks, and Amazon Prime’s The Underground Railroad were recognized as last year’s outstanding drama, comedy, and limited series. Jane Campion also won best director for The Power of ...

2022 Golden Globes to Be Held as ‘Private Event’ With No Livestream

Sunday’s Golden Globes ceremony will be unprecedented in more ways than one. The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that there will be no livestream available for the event after NBC, which retains rights to the broadcast, blocked the organization from mounting its own digital telecast. A rep for HFPA said in a statement, “This year’s event is going to be a private event and will not be live-streamed. We will be providing real-time updates on winners on the Golden Globes website and our social media.” The news comes on the heels of Tuesday’s reveal that the ceremony would not feature a red carpet, celebrity guests, or the typical hoopla and bustling afterparty scene inside the Beverly Hilton Hotel that has come to define the Golden Globes for years. The 79th Golden Globe ...

However, change of this magnitude takes time and work, and we feel strongly that the HFPA needs time to do it right,” NBC said in a statement released on Monday. “As such, NBC will not air the 2022 Golden Globes.
