On Wednesday night’s episode (Jan. 19) of The Daily Show, guest host Leslie Jones opened up with the customary monologue detailing current events. When it came to discussing the embattled GOP House of Representatives member from New York, however, Jones kicked things off with one question. “Do you know how much you have to lie to be known as ‘the lying congressman?’” she asked. Related Stories That set the stage for the SNL veteran to disclose the latest scandal that Santos is allegedly involved in – he apparently set up a GoFundMe page in 2016 to help a homeless disable...

That specific fundraiser only raised $5 and has since been taken down, as have copycats that popped up in its place, AllHipHop reported. First of all, MKWABA is a terrible acronym that will never roll off of the white...

Canada invokes ‘Emergencies Act’ targeting crowdfunding and crypto

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has invoked the Emergencies Act, which gives him the power to freeze Freedom Convoy protesters’ bank accounts and monitor “large and suspicious transactions,” including crypto. Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland said in a press conference on Feb. 14 that this latest tactical maneuver against the protesters broadens the scope of Terrorist Financing rules. It targets “crowdfunding platforms and the payment service providers they use.” “These changes cover all forms of transactions including digital assets such as cryptocurrencies.” Together, protesters had amassed over $19 million in funds through the fundraising platforms GoFundMe and GiveSendGo. However, those funds have been blocked from reaching the convoy, leading some to organize a fundraisin...

Protesters migrate to crypto fundraising platform following GoFundMe ban

Truckers protesting the COVID-19 vaccine mandate in Canada have turned to Bitcoin-based crowdfunding platform Tallycoin, following a barrage of mounting political pressure from all sides that culminated in GoFundMe axing their “Freedom Convoy Campaign.” GoFundMe pulled the campaign and $9 million in donations on Friday in response to reports of violence, which it claimed broke its terms of service. Initially, donors needed to apply to have their funds refunded. However, following a flurry of criticism, the platform backtracked on Saturday, deciding it would automatically refund donors instead. Shortly after GoFundMe axed the campaign, a group of the organizers moved their efforts to Tallycoin, a crowdfunding platform built on the Bitcoin (BTC) blockchain. “Legacy financial infrastructure c...

Asian Woman Who Faded Attacker Has Received Nearly $1M In GoFundMe Donations

HipHopWired Featured Video Source: Justin Sullivan / Getty One of the most horrific pieces of footage from 2021 is also serving as a glimmer of hope. Humanitarians have joined together to support an unfortunate victim. On Wednesday, March 17 Xiao Zhen Xie was waiting to cross an intersection in San Francisco when a White man with blond hair ran up and punched her face. Instead of avoiding further physicality with the perpetrator she picked up a wooden plank and started striking the man’s face. Her adrenaline must have been fueling her rage as she was able to take down her opponent. Police soon arrived at the scene where she stood there sobbing and clutching her weapon. “This bum, he hit me!” she screamed. As spotted on The San Francisco Chronicle the elder has received an amazing...

Source: Rachpoot/MEGA / Getty Tessica Brown was nearly on the other side of public ridicule when she finally had the surgery needed to remove Gorilla Glue out of her hair. After raising over $23,000 on GoFundMe from her incredible story, plans were in motion to donate the money until the crowdfunding platform froze her account.  Apparently, she’s under investigation for fraud.    “They won’t even release it to me because that many people have called and said it was a fraudulent account,” Brown said during an interview with The Post.  “Every time you look at it it says it’s under investigation.”  When Brown initially created her GoFundMe on Feb.7, she hoped for compassionate donors to read her story and donate money towards her cause. At the time, she only aske...

Fundraiser for Borat 2 Babysitter Raises Over $80,000

By and large, the job of Sacha Baron Cohen in Borat Subsequent Moviefilm is to dupe people into revealing how terrible they really are. Just ask Rudy Giuliani. But not everyone in the new film comes off as a villain; in fact, audiences loved 62-year-old babysitter Jeanise Jones so much that they’ve raised over $80,000 for her in a fundraiser set up by her pastor. Jones is featured in a segment where she serves as babysitter to Borat’s daughter, Tutar Sagdiyev (Bulgarian actress Maria Bakalova). Shocked by the sexist and misogynistic beliefs to which the supposedly teenage girl adheres, Jones does her best to lift the veil on the lies. In one scene, Jones reads Tutar her favorite story about a girl who got swallowed by her own “vagine” because she tried to touch herself. In another, she exp...

#BBNaija: Prince turns down Gofundme account

Evicted Prince has rejected a Gofundme account set up by his fans. Like Erica, Nigerians had opened a Gofundme account for the former Housemate to start a salon. But he turned down the campaign, saying he should be the one to bother on how to repay their support. His post reads: “My dear Royal Army, I am overwhelmed and trying to soak in all the love you have been showing me.
