Here’s How Ultra, EDC and Other Music Festivals Impact Airbnb Prices

Many of us have experienced the immense frustration of attempting to book travel accommodations for a massive music festival. But how much extra are we spending in comparison to those who travel to the same destinations on any given day? A new study from money.co.uk analyzed just how much extra we spend on Airbnb accommodations during music festivals. While the results may not be shocking, they’re fairly eye-opening for those who haven’t thought twice about how much profit there is to be had from an Airbnb booking during festival season. This year’s edition of Ultra Miami has caused a 19.1% surge, increasing the average Airbnb price from $456 to $543. However, Ultra surprisingly ranks 18th in a total overall increase in comparison to other major fests. Hardwell perfo...

Glastonbury Festival Attendees Drastically Increase Drug Pollution in River by Urinating: Report

Attendees at Glastonbury Festival, the U.K.’s largest music festival, have caused a significant increase in drug pollution in the river because of their toxic urination habits. Researchers and scientists are asking for patrons to change their habits of public urination at the festival. According to Newsweek, scientists found damaging traces of drugs in the Glastonbury river. The Whitelake and Redlake rivers flow by the Glastonbury Festival site. Back in 2019, scientists measured the water quality before, during, and after the festival both upstream and downstream of the festival location. They specifically tested for popular drugs like MDMA, cocaine, and benzoylecgonine. Researchers reportedly didn’t find any drastic changes but did find “notable traces” of all thre...

Less Than a Quarter of UK Music Festival Performers Identify as Women, Study Shows

If there’s one term at the top of a list of music industry buzzwords, it’s “inclusivity.” However, recent research suggests that making lasting change is easier said than done. Despite strides toward 50/50 gender representation at major festivals in the UK, less than a quarter of the country’s music festival performers this year identify as women.  That’s according to a new study from Protectivity Insurance, which provides large-scale event coverage in the UK. For festivals like Isle of Wight, TRNSMT and Wireless, that tally dips even lower, with the number of female-identifying artists barely hitting 15% of their lineups. Manchester-based Parklife, on the other hand, hits a higher clip of 44%, with Peggy Gou, Annie Mac, Honey Dijon and Ja...

Glastonbury Festival Organizer Emily Eavis Denies Reports of 2021 Cancellation

Following reports of the imminent cancellation of Glastonbury Festival‘s 2021 edition, one of the festival’s organizers has denied such news. The rumor mill began to swirl after Mel B of the Spice Girls appeared on BBC Radio 5 Live and said she was informed that Glastonbury Festival was called off. Her comments were a double whammy of sorts, fueling speculation not only of the fest’s cancellation, but also a landmark performance by the Spice Girls during their 25th anniversary celebrations.  “I know that Glastonbury’s been cancelled, so a lot of big stage performances are on hold again this year, which is sad but we’ve got to get this virus under control,” Mel B said. When a Twitter user tweeted at Emily Eavis—a co-organizer of the festival...
