What's the chances they get the OG Ghostbusters like Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, and Ernie Hudson to voice their characters? Probably slim to none but hey, we can dream, right? The post Netflix Orders New Animated ‘Ghostbusters’ Series appeared first on Hip-Hop Wired.
Sure, you know who to call if there’s something strange in your neighborhood, but how much do you know about the man behind the iconic Ghostbusters theme song? Filmmaker Fran Strine and Sony Pictures today unveiled the official trailer for Who You Gonna Call?, the forthcoming documentary about Ray Parker Jr., the legendary rhythm guitarist who most certainly ain’t afraid of no ghosts. “If you only know him as ‘the Ghostbusters guy,’ then you don’t know him at all,” the Who You Gonna Call? trailer warns you. Thankfully, the documentary brings together some fellow music industry legends like Clive Davis to sing his praises. Parker himself appears prominently in the documentary to help tell his story from growing up in segregated Detroit to winning a Grammy, detailing...
When Ray Parker Jr. wrote and released “Ghostbusters” into the world, he would land a hit that simply couldn’t be busted. The single, a tie-in with the blockbuster film of the same name, would rise to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1984, and stay there for three weeks, giving the Detroit native his first and only leader. With the passing of Ivan Reitman, Parker has thanked the late filmmaker for his part in creating a monster hit. Reitman, who died Sunday (Feb. 13) at age 75, will be remembered for Ghostbusters, Animal House, Heavy Metal, Meatballs and many more films. Ghostbusters director Ivan Reitman has died at the age of 75. According to Reitman’s family, the filmmaker passed peacefully though unexpectedly in his sleep on the night of Saturday, February 12th in his Montecito, California home. In a joint statement, Reitman’s children Jason, Catherine, and Caroline said, “Our family is grieving the unexpected loss of a husband, father, and grandfather who taught us to always seek the magic in life. We take comfort that his work as a filmmaker brought laughter and happiness to countless others around the world. While we mourn privately, we hope those who knew him through his films will remember him always.” In addition to the two original Ghostbusters films, Reitman helmed such comedy classics as Twins, Kindergarten Cop, and Dave. His early c...
The Pitch: Trying to tell a really good 21st century Ghostbusters story seems to be an enterprise guaranteed to make absolutely no one happy. Which already makes Ghostbusters: Afterlife a depressing venture right out of the gate; one can almost sense director Jason Reitman screaming from the sidelines, “Are you nerds happy now?!?” Unfortunately, as much as Afterlife openly seeks to draw upon nostalgia for the original, a lot of fans may find the taste of their youth to be curdled by the level of pandering involved. Things begin with the reveal that one of the original Ghostbusters (the movie gets a bit coy about this, but it’s Egon Spengler, who was played by the recently deceased Harold Ramis) had left his friends and moved to Summerville, Oklahoma in the years before his death. Following...
HipHopWired Featured Video Source: Kimberley French / Sony Pictures Entertainment The latest installment of Ghostbusters was supposed to have hit theaters last summer but like everything else, the pandemic caused those plans to be scraped and canceled. Now that things are getting back to somewhat normal (for now), Ghostbusters: Afterlife has gotten a new release date and a new trailer. The latest 2-minute peek once again introduces us to Egon’s grandchildren, Phoebe (McKenna Grace) and Trevor (Finn Wolfhard), who move out to a small town and discover that their dearly departed grandfather was once a legendary ghost hunting scientist who saved the world from the apocalypse back in the 80’s. Revamping and tweaking some of his ghostbustin’ toys such as station wagon a.k.a Ecto-1, and gho...
Anticipating movies these days is a fool’s errand. Unless it’s guaranteed to be hitting a streaming platform, the release date of any film should have an asterisk appended to it. That’s not cynical, but the nature of covering this industry amidst the pandemic. So, you could imagine how fun this list was to put together. (Spoiler: It wasn’t.) Dragging over last year’s offerings to this one seems like an easy task, but the shift opens the door for so many questions, all of which boil down to: “What are the odds?” For many features — you know, like Ghostbusters: Afterlife, or No Time to Die, or Halloween Kills, or any film without a streaming opt-in — the release date is as certain as we are about anything right now in life. “We’ll see” is the name of the game. Having said that, a few studios...

When the elder Reitman appears, Gad nervously asks if the “supernatural” crew from his...
In 2016, Hillary Clinton became the first female presidential candidate to be backed by a major US party. Gender was not surprisingly a hot button issue throughout the Clinton vs. Donald Trump election, dividing households nationwide, but longtime film director Paul Feig believes that the vitriol against Clinton had a substantial impact beyond politics: he blames the anti-Hillary movement for the backlash he received for his female-led Ghostbusters reboot. Speaking on Jess Cagle’s SiriusXM show last week, Feig said, “I think some really brilliant author, researcher or sociologist, needs to write a book about 2016 and how intertwined we were with Hillary [Clinton] and the anti-Hillary movement.” Officially titled Ghostbusters: Answer the Call, the reboot hit theaters Summer 2016, just ...
