NGHTMRE is getting ready to debut one of the most unique livestreams of the year. Midway through next week he will be airing a performance with Ghastly and Wavedash. While that’s an awesome lineup, you may be asking yourself, “What’s so special about three sets from these artists?” Well, they’re boardsliding their way into the world of professional skateboarding and performing while a number of skaters dazzle with tricks during their sets. They didn’t recruit just any skaters for the Insomniac-powered event, dubbed The Highlands. They’ve teamed up with the sport’s most notable figure, Tony Hawk, who will be joined on the ramp by NGHTMRE’s longtime friend and gold medalist Elliot Sloan, as well as Tom Schaar, Clay Kreiner, an...
Death metal and psychedelic rock may seem worlds apart, but the two are actually riding the same psychic wavelength more often than not. In fact, I’d argue death metal has carried the mantle for psych for well over three decades. Both push guitar music to induce cerebral intoxication and overdrive – aided by copious volume – which can seem suffocating and freeing all at once. Psych’s trippy visions of boundless cosmos elicit the same heady pleasure of death metal’s visual fortes: dripping, melted skin, godly beings crushed into dust, endless wars begetting endless wars. No band embodies this connection like Finland’s Ghastly, whose latest album Mercurial Passages, out on May 28th through 20 Buck Spin, is as mind-bending as it is brutal. The trio, comprised of chief instrumentalist Ian J. D...
Ghastly‘s year in lockdown was a time of introspection, and he reflected as much in his productions. His singles “Help” and “Stay” were both cathartic and expressive of what many of us were feeling at the time. As the live music scene slowly returns to a sense of normalcy, Ghastly is ready to bring back the energy with a brand new single, “The OG,” out now via Kannibalen Records. Ghastly’s new festival-ready bass single “The OG” arrives just in time for Ubbi Dubbi this weekend. Kannibalen Records “The OG” encompasses the hard-hitting bass we know and love from Ghastly and is built for the festival circuit. It has a slow, haunting build with distant claps and vocal chops looming in the eerie background...

A show at Orlando’s Gilt Nightclub over the weekend is drawing the ire of the dance music community after footage from the event revealed a glaring disregard for social distancing. The concert, which featured Ghastly, occurred on Saturday, October 10th. The video below—shared by a Reddit user—shows a number of people in the crowd wearing masks while many are not. Social distancing, however, was largely ignored. It’s important to note that while the footage certainly looks damning for Ghastly, it is ultimately the venue’s responsibility to enforce rules and guidelines. Following the onset of the pandemic, Gilt Nightclub made headlines back in June 2020 for hosting a similar concert with dubstep artist Dirt Monkey. Following that show, a number of the nightclub’s...
