King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard Unleash New Demos Album, Live Recording for Bandcamp Friday: Stream

The Bandcamp Friday force is strong with King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard today. The Australian psych-rock crew have released not one, but two lengthy projects on the beloved digital music platform: a 28-song demos collection and an 18-track live album. Demos Vol. 1 + Vol. 2 contains demos and unfinished loosies plucked from throughout the band’s 15-album discography. There are early versions of old tracks like 2011’s “Let It Bleed” and 2017’s “The Spider and Me”, as well as unheard takes of super recent 2020 singles “Honey” and “Straws In The Wind”. As for the new live album, Live in Asheville ’19 captures King Gizzard’s September 2019 gig at the New Belgium Brewing Company in Asheville, North Carolina. Technically it’s their fifth live record of 2020 following hefty release d...

Oh Sees (as Osees) Announce New EP Weirdo Hairdo

John Dwyer and his collaborators in Osees (formerly Oh Sees)  are great friends to their fans and terrible enemies to their fans’ bank accounts. Hours after detailing their forthcoming remix LP Panther Rotate, the prolific rockers have revealed yet another new release: a limited edition EP called Weirdo Hairdo. It’s only available for pre-order, with sales ceasing October 1st. Weirdo Hairdo will be released as a 12-inch and feature the popular cover of Alice Cooper and the Spiders “Don’t Blow Your Mind” that they shared in a rehearsal video earlier this year. The EP is rounded out by the title track and the song “Tear Ducks”. In a statement, the band described the new music as “loose limbed and lysergic,” which means psychedelic, for those who’ve never dropped acid...

Oh Sees (as Osees) Announce New Album Metamorphosed, Share “Electric War”: Stream

There’s prolific, and then there’s John Dwyer‘s perpetual motion machine OCS Thee Oh Sees Oh Sees Osees. Having just today released the new album Protean Threat, the rockers are back to announce an even newer album, Metamorphosed. It arrives October 16th via Rock Is Hell, and the band is offering a preview with the lead single “Electric War”. Metamorphosed comes out of the sessions that produced 2019’s Face Stabber. It may only be five tracks long, but it achieves a full album’s length with the help of the more than 23-minute epic “I Got a Lot”. In an interview with Henry Rollins, Dwyer explained that this kind of song, “Usually… takes place at the end of the planned recording. We have extra time and tape to lay down some deep cuts and long jams, etc., the fun part...

King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard Drop New Song “Straws in the Wind”: Stream

King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard showcase a sitar and a sense of humor on their new song and music video for “Straws in the Wind”. Listening to a fresh cut from the prolific Aussie rockers is like cracking open a Gumpian box of chocolate — it really does seem like anything is possible. For this song, led by bandmember Ambrose Kenny-Smith, King Gizz dips a toe into Beatles-esque psychedelia. Over discursive acoustic guitars and driving drums, Kenny-Smith sings out apocalyptic lyrics in a sweet tenor voice: “Straws in the wind. Is it all ending?” He adds. “Like a blunder brewing full to the brim. I can hear hells kitchen and they’re singing hymns.” Cook Craig cracks out the sitar, and Stu Mackenzie joins in with otherworldly flutes. The accompanying music video is a celebration of green sc...

King Khan Announces First-Ever Jazz Album The Infinite Ones, Shares “Wait Till The Stars Burn”: Stream

After putting out garage rock records for the last two decades, King Khan is looking to try something new on his next effort. Enter: The Infinite Ones, his first-ever jazz album, due out October 30th via Ernest Jenning Record Co. and Khannibalism. The 11-track effort boasts contributions from Sun Ra Arkestra members Marshall Allen and Knoel Scott. Calexico bandmates John Convertino and Martin Wenk also appear on select songs. According to King Khan, The Infinite Ones comes from “a place from deep within the soul” and serves as a tribute to iconic composers like Alice Coltrane, Ennio Morricone, Miles Davis, Sun Ra, John Carpenter, and Quincy Jones. The Canadian musician explained further, “In my 23 years of being a composer of music I have had the great opportunity to score severa...

Mourn Announce New Album Self Worth, Share “This Feeling is Disgusting”: Stream

Barcelona indie rockers Mourn have announced a new album. Titled Self Worth, the follow-up to 2018’s Sopresa Familia will arrive October 30th through Captured Tracks. As its title indicates, the forthcoming effort finds Mourn rediscovering themselves after a bout of trials and tribulations, including the departure of drummer Antonio Postius. “This album gave us what we needed: self-worth, the desire to go forward, to love ourselves, with everything, with the good and bad,” the group, now a trio, notes in a statement. “This album empowers us.” “Call You Back”, released in May, offered fans their first peek at the new LP. A second single, “This Feeling is Disgusting”, has now been revealed. The track is a literal reaction to the world — as it is in this present moment and what it may ha...

Eric Moore, Drummer/Manager of King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, Leaves Band

Eric Moore, the drummer and manager of King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, has left the band. In a social media post, he said that he “will keep working with Gizz putting out records but I will no longer be an active member or manager of the group.” While he didn’t give a reason, the band added that he plans “to focus solely on Flightless Records.” Moore was one of two drummers in the outfit, along with Michael Cavanagh. Moore founded Flightless in 2012 in Melbourne, Australia, shipping LPs in any old container, including pizza boxes. The label has since put out 18 releases by King Gizz, including their most recent effort Infest the Rats’ Nest, as well as albums by The Murlocs, Amyl and the Sniffers, and more. In his statement, Moore said, “I’m excited to keep growing the label and co...

The Cribs Announce New Album Night Network, Share “Running Into You”: Stream

The Cribs have announced their new album, Night Network. It’s set for arrival November 13th, 2020 through Sonic Blew/[PIAS]. The forthcoming record serves as their eighth overall and follow-up to 2017’s 24-7 Rock Star Shit. More importantly, it marks the return of a British band that almost called it quits after an exhausting business matter involving their management. According to a statement, immediately following the release of their previous record, The Cribs parted way with their UK representation. This led to what they described as a “legal morass” that left them unable to record or release new music for 18 months. For a group that’s steadily put out records for the last 15 years, such a hold-up was disruptive to say the least. “At one point we were actually so disillusioned with wha...

King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard Share New Song “Some of Us”: Stream

King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard are back to doing what they do best: releasing staggering amounts of music. The latest offering is “Some of Us”, and it comes with a nightmare-inducing music video. You’d think the Aussie rockers had been watching Lovecraft Country judging from the lyrics. Stu Mackenzie sings of “Ancient tombs like sand-filled wombs,” to reflect upon the passage of “untold aeons.” Guitars match Mackenzie note-for-note, sounding for all the world like a demon chorus engaged in a psych-rock sing-a-long. According to a statement on social media, “Some of Us” was written earlier this year. The band said, “This Cookie penned, Stu sung song came together early this year as the world was slowly descending into madness, but before it was truly on fire. Can’t wait to show y’a...

Oh Sees (as Osees) Share Rallying New Single “If I Had My Way”: Stream

Prolific rockers Oh Sees will continue to stay prolific this summer — just under yet another different name. As revealed last month, the group has recorded a new album credited to the moniker Osees. This forthcoming effort, titled Protean Threat, is due out next month and is being previewed now with “If I Had My Way”. While previous lead single “Dreary Nonsense” was an aggressive and punchy punk listen, today’s offering leans more into the laid-back, hazy energy of the season. There are bold, punctuating guitars here and there, but overall the track rolls along at a steady, garage rock pace as frontman John Dwyer barks out a list of existential questions: “Everybody look up!Are you in love? Are you free? Are you alive? Are you evil? Are you all alone? Are you testing it out?Are you flying solo?...
