Arsenal Summer Transfers: How the Gunners Could Line Up Next Season

With just over two months until the new Premier League season commences, there remains an abundance of rumours as to who may line-up for Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal come August. What we do know is the Gunners are intent on making this window count, and key targets in Fabio Vieira and Gabriel Jesus have already been secured, while Sporting Director Edu recently suggested negotiations are certainly not over yet. Arsenal’s Potential Starting XI Summer of Change at the Emirates After failing to register any fresh acquisitions back in the winter transfer window, the Arsenal faithful were understandably left wondering how a squad as thin as their own would remain competitive in the race for Champions League football. Despite this, the Gunners managed to push for that fourth s...

‘Don’t let him go’: Some Arsenal fans react to recent update on 20-year-old attacker

A section of Arsenal fans have reacted on Twitter after reading that Gabriel Martinelli could make the Brazil Under-23 squad for the Olympic games. Gabriel Magalhaes has already been included in the 18-man squad for the games in Tokyo, and he could miss the start of the new Premier League season. Martinelli did not make the cut after being named in the provisional 23-man squad. However, he could yet be called-up by the national side. Clubs can block players from participating in the games as it is not associated with FIFA. Flamengo have rejected the call-up for striker Pedro, and ESPN Brasil claims that Martinelli could be one of the front-runners to replace the 24-year-old. Some of the Gunners have not welcomed the prospect, and believe the 20-year-old is better off starting the season wi...

‘So pleased’, ‘Smart’: Some Arsenal fans react to forward’s display vs Sheffield United

A selection of Arsenal fans on Twitter expressed their delight over the performance of Gabriel Martinelli against Sheffield United on Sunday. The 19-year-old has had a tough 15 months due to injuries and competition for places, and was handed only his fourth league start of the campaign yesterday. The teenager produced a lively performance with a tireless workrate, and showed good intent on goal with as many as four shots. He suffered an injury scare in the second half as he twisted his ankle but moments later, he went on to score the second goal of the game. It was a simple tap-in at the far post after an Aaron Ramsdale save off Nicolas Pepe, but he timed his run perfectly to find the back of the net. Here are some reactions from a few fans on Twitter. I’m so pleased for Martinelli. He re...

Rio Ferdinand drools over ‘massive’ Arsenal talent who is ‘going to be a huge, huge player’

Rio Ferdinand has hailed Arsenal youngster Gabriel Martinelli as a ‘tremendous’ player and has predicted that he would become a ‘huge player’ if he stays fit. The youngster – who joined in the 2019 summer window for a reported fee of £6m from Brazilian outfit Ituano – is rated highly at the club, and several Arsenal players and Mikel Arteta himself have showered high praise on him from time to time. Last season, the youngster netted 10 goals from just 16 starts across all competitions. He has recently returned to action following a six-month spell on the sidelines, and Arteta has promised to use him wisely. He impressed during Arsenal’s defeat against Manchester City and produced a superb performance last week in the London derby win against Chelsea. On Saturday, Martinelli and B...

Kieran Tierney hopeful victory over Chelsea a turning point for Arsenal

Kieran Tierney is hopeful Arsenal’s 3-1 win over Chelsea can be a springboard to climbing the table. The Gunners came into the game on the back of a winless run in the league dating back to the start of November. Coach Mikel Arteta was forced into a reshuffle due to illness and a coronavirus scare , and the changes paid off for the Spanish coach as his side looked far more hungry than Chelsea. Alexandre Lacazette’s penalty following a foul by Reece James on Tierney set them on their way on 34 minutes. A brilliant free kick from Granit Xhaka on the stroke of half-time doubled the advantage, and Bukayo Saka’s cross-cum-shot over Edouard Mendy secured the three points despite Tammy Abraham netting a late goal for Chelsea. The win does little for Arsenal’s position in the table, as they only m...

Bernd Leno says £22.5m-rated Arsenal star can become a world class player

Arsenal goalkeeper Bernd Leno believes Gabriel Martinelli has the quality and talent to become a world class player in the long run. The teenager joined the Gunners from Brazilian fourth-tier side Ituano last summer and he was initially fancied to link up with the development squad. However, he managed to sufficiently impress during the pre-season tour of the United States and was therefore able to cement a first-team spot under then-manager Unai Emery. Martinelli scored a brace in his full debut against Nottingham Forest in the League Cup third round and he has since bagged another eight goals and four assists from 25 appearances. Speaking to Soccer AM, Leno was full of praise for the Brazil youth international and said that the 18-year-old has the potential to evolve into a wor...
