Listen to San Holo’s Long-Awaited Sophomore Album, “bb u ok?”

It’s been a bit of a windy road to San Holo‘s long-awaited sophomore album, but it’s finally here—and it delivers. Spanning 20 tracks, the expansive album is a tour de force of San Holo’s career and finds him exploring a markedly more indie style. The Chet Porter-assisted “you’ve changed, i’ve changed” is a standout example with its angsty chorus and punk-inspired drum programming, as is “one more day,” an aching indietronica cut with Mija and Mr. Carmack that ties a bow on the LP. Holo largely eschews the soaring future bass sound that propelled him to international acclaim, instead opting for resounding 808s that rumble under light, feathery electroacoustic elements. This approach is executed with finesse in the spacey R...

NGHTMRE and Alexandar Smash Drop Future Bass Anthem “Speak Easy”

For his latest future bass anthem, NGHTMRE has joined forces with rising duo Alexandar Smash on a new single called “Speak Easy,” which features a stunning vocal performance from Ghostlo. “Speak Easy” opens with a gentle touch as Ghostlo’s gossamer vocals float atop soft, distorted synths. The chords begin to progress into an eerie soundscape that eventually crescendos into a soaring drop that should do well to bellow through the festival circuit as it returns in 2021. Rippling with warm saws and thick 808s, the track engulfs the senses as its delicate vocals lend to a beautifully balanced arrangement. Listen to the new single below, which arrived by way of Ultra Records. “‘Speak Easy’ was one of those tracks that really came t...

Dion Timmer’s “Arcane” EP is a Masterclass in Bass Music Production

Dion Timmer has arrived with his highly anticipated Arcane EP, a 7-track stunner that arrives via Excision‘s Subsidia Records banner. Arcane is nothing short of breathtaking. Timmer effortlessly weaves through the darkest netherworlds of bass music, interpolating elements of drum & bass, dubstep, and even midtempo. Original musicality gushes through each of the record’s seven tracks like a broken dam, each one rife with an electrifying blend of meticulously crafted melodies and roaring bass patches. Arcane features joint tracks with Lucii, G-REX and Armanni Reign, Azuria Sky, Teddy Killerz, and Excision and Monika Santucci. The latter collaboration is something to marvel at. An Excision song at 102 BPM is completely out of left-field, but considering the forward-thinki...

Rossy and We Rose Drop Stunning New Single “See Through”

Rossy, a rising artist on the precipice of stardom in the electronic music space, has dropped her long-awaited collaboration alongside bass music duo We Rose. “See Through” is a stunning piece of emotive bass set against a melodic atmosphere that highlights the best of what both artists have to offer.  The track opens with a brooding beat as Rossy’s angelic yet solemn vocals set the tone for what’s in store. The synths and drums build to an explosive drop that hits like a heart slowly breaking. The synths continue to flutter in the break, where the track builds and eventually culminates in an impressive bout of arpeggiated synths. The emotion is beautifully conveyed not only in the angsty lyrics but also in its hard-hitting sonic flair. Chec...

Benzi Expands His Sound with New Melodic Single “Red Rover (feat. Sad Alex)”

New York’s Benzi is well known for his “#BANGUERS with Benzi” radio show on SiriusXM and his hard-hitting trap style. However, the producer and DJ’s latest single is a bit of a departure from his normal amped-up productions.  “Red Rover” is Benzi’s latest offering and it features vocalist Sad Alex. Taking a more emotional and melodic approach, “Red Rover” teeters more toward a future bass-infused sound, not unlike recent releases from The Chainsmokers or Martin Garrix.  That’s not to say that Benzi’s unique flavor isn’t ever-present in the production—the bass is just as crushing as ever, and the percussion draws nicely on the trap-inspired elements that the producer is so well-known f...

The time it takes to heal from heartbreak can be excruciating and seems to last forever. Reminiscing on the good times and mourning love lost go hand in hand with those circumstances. After a short break from releasing music, bass music veteran Vanic has teamed up with GRAMMY-nominated musician, vocalist, and songwriter K.Flay on a new single that explores those painful experiences and encapsulates what the heartbroken may be feeling after such events.  “So Slow” is a melodic future bass tune that not only captures the essence of heartbreak through its melancholy and pensive lyrics from K.Flay, but also mirrors that emotion within the production itself. The main section’s gloomy synth wails out a dejected melody that carries the weight of K.Flays ...
