Yuga Labs co-founder Greg Solana (Garga.eth) has shot down rumors that the Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) creators have plans to launch a new NFT collection dubbed “Mecha Apes” by the end of the year. The rumors started swirling after Protos claimed to have obtained leaked documents detailing that Yuga Labs was looking at raising around $50 million from the sale of 100,000 tokenized land plots. Gaming YouTube streamer “Dr Disrespect” unveiled the first sneak peek of his upcoming NFT shooter game dubbed Deadrop on July 30. The initial reaction has been mixed, however, with some underwhelmed by the game’s lack of polish given that Dr Disrepect boasted in a now-deleted Tweet from June that it “already blows out anything” from the Call of Duty game engine. User @Jonesy_Actual stated the game currently looks “like an arcade shooter at Chuck E Cheese” while @MemeCyptum sarcastically chimed in with: “Dr Disrespect tried making an NFT shooter and it looks like a**? Since the first Pop! figures debuted in 2010, Funko‘s licensed collectible brand has grown into a behemoth, entrenched in pop culture as a nostalgia machine. The brand has come a long way since it first dropped its Batman, Batgirl, and Green Lantern items, branching out into all mediums of entertainment, including music. Superstar DJ, electronic music producer, and cake-hurler Steve Aoki is the latest high-profile musician to be Pop-ified by the iconic brand.
