If music is anything, it’s therapy. Just ask Romy of The xx, whose haunting new single, “Strong,” is a soul-stirring ode to resiliency. Produced in collaboration with Fred again.. and prolific record producer Stuart Price, the cathartic track is about learning how to process grief. It’s only the second-ever solo track from Romy, who said “Strong” was inspired in part by the loss of her mother and written to “ultimately find a sense of release in the euphoria of music.” The single arrives ahead of her debut studio album, which is still in the works. Check out the official music video for “Strong” below. The audiovisual was directed by Romy’s wife, filmmaker and photographer Vic Lentaigne. Scroll to Continue Recommended Articles Mea...

We all know Fred again.. is a gifted music producer. But it’s actually his humanity which is his greatest weapon. After being starved for connection throughout the isolation of the pandemic, our hunger for genuine bonds is ravenous. And no one is able to cultivate them with their music quite like Fred, a master of unfiltered storytelling whose new album, Actual Life 3, is a reminder to imbue color in life’s grey moments. AL3 is a microcosm of Fred’s profound ability to turn life’s happenstances into visceral dance music. Interpolating samples from real-life encounters, transcendent songwriting sessions and even random videos sent by friends, the album is a collage of the mementos he’s collected during his breakthrough year. We’ve pulled the yar...
Well that’s one way to spark creativity. Fred again.. has revealed that he’s living in the Los Angeles home of Skrillex, who’s concurrently shacking up in the Brit’s London digs. The two electronic music superstars swapped homes ahead of the release of Fred’s long-awaited third album, Actual Life 3. Over the course of the last few weeks, fans have tuned into both artists’ social media for spontaneous jam sessions livestreamed from the homes. A bevy of renowned musicians appeared alongside Skrillex and Fred in these streams, such as Four Tet and Flowdan. That group have been teasing a hotly anticipated collaboration, tentatively titled “Rumble,” which Fred played in his viral Boiler Room set. Speaking to Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1, Fred opened...
There was more heat than just that of the sizzling waffle irons emitting from the food truck outside Terminal 5 over the weekend. Four Tet and Fred again.. took over the New York venue, but didn’t quite feel like turning down after their sets were over. Instead, the two took over a food truck serving waffles in the immediate vicinity after noticing those inside were having a good time playing music on boombox speakers. Naturally, once Four Tet and Fred again.. were given free reign over the aux, a crowd quickly began to form around the vehicle. The two artists were enjoying the moment, but as the crowd grew in mass, they were also looking to make an exit. That wasn’t before teeing up one last legendary crowd pleasing track, however. “Lolllll I said to @fourtetkieran alright las...
Fred again.. is inescapable these days. But unlike other names hyped ad nauseam into oblivion this year, his is one you’d be smart to emotionally invest in. For some reason, musicians are still expected to masquerade as doppelgängers of themselves—cringey caricatures sharing manufactured moments through the vacuous engines of TikTok. Content culture is the music industry’s newest and most vicious plague, and it corrodes the mental health of its most authentic artists. But as social media continues to dig its crooked claws into the sincerity of musicians, Fred again.. is fracturing its nefarious nature by being his most genuine self. San Francisco’s newest music festival, Portola, went down over the weekend, walloping the Bay Area with the sounds of electronic music greats. The fest, which is produced by Goldenvoice and took place on September 24th and 25th, attracted roughly 30,000 fans and featured an epic lineup. Flume, Fatboy Slim, Four Tet, Jamie xx, Kaytranada, Peggy Gou, Fred again.. and The Chemical Brothers threw down at the sun-kissed grounds of Pier 80, among others. EDM.com was on the ground to capture the unique sights and intoxicating sounds of Portola’s inaugural festival. And if these photos are any indication, it’s the first of many. Stepping into a critical career juncture, Fred again.. is telegraphing better days ahead with his new single, “Bleu (better with time).” True to the producer’s underground house flair that has taken the electronic music community by storm, the track excels in sparking a groove with straightforward, catchy and melodic production. While “Bleu” is often minimal in its production, the latest brick in Fred’s Actual Life 3 album saga is more evidence he’s owning a lane that is uniquely his own. The light and airy constitution of “Bleu” is driven by feathery synths, which are buoyed by distorted vocal swirls and pumping drums. Lyrically, the track forecasts a tepidly optimistic outlook by way of a sticky, memorable hook. Check out the off...
