David Hyde Pierce will not be joining Kelsey Grammer in the Frasier reboot, but Grammer says our beloved psychiatrist will have a good time even without his little brother. “David basically decided he wasn’t really interested in repeating the performance of Niles,” Grammer told People. Fortunately, however, the setback forced the Frasier writers to think up a more interesting plot for its main character than a stale cast reunion. “In a very funny way, it just took us to a new place, which was what we originally wanted to do anyway, which was a Frasier third act,” Grammer said. “It’s an entirely new life for him.” Frasier ran for 11 seasons from 1993 to 2004. Once the sitcom ended, Hyde Pierce went on to work in theater, and most recently appeared in the HBO Max series&n...
Do you think Dr. Frasier Crane ever listened to Pearl Jam? He lived in Seattle in the ’90s, after all. That’s the premise of a parody clip that went viral on Twitter this week, in which comedian Jon Blair imagines the Fraiser cast as hip (well, sort of) to the local music scene. Complete with a fuzzy guitar cover of the opening theme “Tossed Salad and Scrambled Eggs” (ripped by RJ Satchithananthan), the video begins with Fraiser announcing his plans to see Pearl Jam, “the great cultural crown jewel of Seattle,” live in concert. This proclamation paves the way for the gang to name-drop the grunge Big Four: Niles is a Soundgarden fan, while Martin mistakes Layne Staley for a woman named Allison (get it?). Elsewhere, the eldest Crane suggests his son get into Stone Temple Pilots instead,...
2,977 people died in the World Trade Center attacks on September 11th, 2001, and Frasier co-creator David Angell was among the victims. Via Deadline, the show’s star Kelsey Grammer has recalled the moment he learned that his friend and coworker had perished, saying, “It is a day of loss that I always remember.” Frasier first met Angell when he joined Cheers as a staff writer in 1983, and the pair continued to collaborate until his death. On 9/11, Angell and his wife Lynn were traveling from Cape Cod to Los Angeles, when they boarded American Airlines flight 11 out of Boston. Fifteen minutes after takeoff, the plane was hijacked, and about 45 minutes later it collided with the World Trade Center North Tower. According to Grammer, “I was awakened by a frien...
After three years spent on hold, a reboot of Frasier is finally coming to air. Via The Hollywood Reporter, star Kelsey Grammer will be reprising his role in a sequel series on Paramount+. Grammer has been pushing a revival since at least 2018. But the salad remained untossed and the eggs unscrambled until earlier this month, when reports surfaced that Grammer and CBS/VIacom had joined together at the negotiating table. On Wednesday, ViacomCBS finally announced the reboot as a go. Grammer sounds understandably excited about returning to the role he first originated on Cheers in 1984. “Having spent over 20 years of my creative life on the Paramount lot, both producing shows and performing in several, I’d like to congratulate Paramount+ on its entry into the streaming world,” he said. “I...
The executives at ViacomCBS are hankering for toss salad and scrambled eggs, hoping for a revival of the hit sitcom Frasier. As Variety reports, the company is in early talks with star Kelsey Grammer for a reboot that would air on Paramount+, its rebranded streaming service set to replace CBS All Access. Frasier was the Dave Grohl to Cheers’ Nirvana; a spin-off from a beloved cultural institution that went on to outlast the original. Starring Grammar, David Hyde Pierce, Jane Leeves, Peri Gilpin, and John Mahoney, who died in 2018, Frasier ran from 1993 to 2004, winning a record-breaking 37 Primetime Emmy Awards and taking home five consecutive trophies for Outstanding Comedy Series. At a time when far less successful franchises have been brought back fro...
