Kano DisCo: Our meters not for sale
The Kano Electricity Distribution Company has warned that meter deployment and installation by its field officials remain free and not for sale. A statement signed by KEDCO Head of Communications, Ibrahim Shawai, on Monday, in Kano, said the clarification had become necessary in view of the recent claims by some online platforms that customers in Kano franchise were made to pay ‘indirectly’ for meters. “This is totally out of place as we have never collected money for meter or installations. “It is as a result of our support for the Federal Government Mass Metering programme where thousands of meters have been installed at different households under our franchise. “Anyone disguising as KEDCO staff or conniving with any of our staff to extort customers, such persons would not be spared but ...
Bauchi residents lament erratic power supply
Some residents of Bauchi metropolis have expressed concerned over the erratic power supply in the area. Some of the residents who spoke with newsmen in seperate interviews, said the situation had made life unbearable for them. Newsmen report that Gwallameji area of Bauchi and other parts of the metropolis are leaving in darkness in the past months following vandalisation of electrical facilities in the affected communitie. Minister: Diaspora voting to start soon
The Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Zubairu Dada, has assured Nigerians abroad that Diaspora voting may be realised soon. He said Nigerians abroad are part of the county and as such should be allowed to exercise their franchise. The minister disclosed that the Independent National Electoral Commission and the National Assembly were currently working to make this materialise. A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress in Kwara State, Akogun Iyiola Oyedepo, says his book on “21 political lies in Nigeria” is to educate the electorate on the antics of politicians during elections. Oyedepo said this on Monday in Ilorin while speaking at the presentation of the book. The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the 21 chapter, 140 pages book chronicled many lies told by politicians to win votes during campaigns. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Friday cautioned politicians against vote buying, food sharing and other activities capable of buying the conscience of voters at polling units duing Saturday’s Lagos East by-elections. Dr Adekunle Ogunmola, INEC Supervisory National Commissioner in charge of the by-elections, told newsmen in Lagos that the commission would not tolerate any act that would discredit the polls. DISCO: New tariff only affects major electricity consumers
The Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO), says the new tariff regime approved by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) will not affect lower electricity consumers in its franchise. KEDCO’s franchise include Kano, Katsina and Jigawa States. Mr Ibrahim Shawai, Head of Corporate Communications of the company, gave the clarification in a statement issued on Wednesday in Kano. Shawai said that the increase in tariff would be applied only on major electricity consumers who had been categorised into Band A, B and C. He explained that the Band A, B and C consumers enjoyed minimum of power supply between 20, 16 and 12 hours respectively.
