Four Tet Wins Legal Battle Over Streaming Royalties Dispute

Four Tet has come out on the winning end of a legal battle against his label after around a year of litigation. The tenured electronic music producer brought a legal claim against his record label, Domino, alleging the organization had only paid him 18% of the royalty share for his music instead of the 50% rate promised in his contract.  Signed in 2001, Four Tet’s agreement with Domino yielded multiple acclaimed albums, including Pause, Rounds and Everything Ecstatic. The ugly battle led to Domino temporarily removing the albums from streaming services per their legal guidance, though the music has since been restored. In filing the suit, Four Tet sought £70,000 in backpay from Domino. Scroll to Continue Recommended Articles Now, Four Tet has announced that he’ll be r...

Four Tet Gets Green Light From U.K. Judge to Proceed With Lawsuit Against Domino

Domino Recordings probably didn’t expect such a domino effect. Pat Treacy, Deputy Judge at the U.K. Intellectual Property Enterprise Court, has reportedly ruled that Four Tet‘s breach of contract suit against Domino will be able to proceed. The full trial is set to take place towards the beginning of 2022. Earlier this summer Four Tet sued Domino for a breach of contract, alleging the label had not paid out their agreed-upon streaming royalty rate of 50%. The label fired back and pointed to a separate clause in their contract, which was signed in 2001, that states they’re only obliged to pay 75% of their standard 18%: “In respect of records sold in new technology formats other than vinyl, Compact Discs and analogue tape cassettes the royalty rate...

Four Tet Alleges Domino Removed 3 of His Albums Amid Ongoing Lawsuit

Amid a bitter contract dispute, Four Tet has accused the Domino Recording Company of removing three of his albums from streaming platforms to prevent his lawsuit from progressing any further.  “This is heartbreaking to me,” Four Tet tweeted. “People are reaching out asking why they can’t stream the music and I’m sad to have to say that it’s out of my control.” “I considered the people who ran Domino to be my friends and to be driven by trying to create a great musical community,” he added. “As a result Domino own 3 of my albums forever. Music I created that’s important to me and to many of you too.”  Late this summer, Four Tet sued Domino for a massive discrepancy in their agreed-upon streaming roya...

Four Tet Sues Label Over Perceived Discrepancy In Streaming Royalty Rate

A new lawsuit brought forth by Four Tet claims his label Domino Recordings underpaid his streaming royalties for music released over a decade ago.  The contract, singed in 2001, led to a partnership between the producer and Domino that manifested multiple albums, including 2001’s Pause, 2003’s Rounds, and 2005’s Everything Ecstatic. At the heart of Four Tet’s claim is the assertion that he is entitled to a 50% share of the streaming royalties for these albums. However, he was historically paid only 18%, according to the suit. The basis for the claim comes from a clause in the contract which suggests that any licensing of his masters to services based outside of the UK entitles Four Tet to a 50% royalty rate. A judge could potentially rule this to be the ca...

Skrillex, Starrah and Four Tet Drop Eerie “Butterflies” Music Video: Watch

Skrillex, Starrah and Four Tet have unveiled the official music video for their collaborative hit “Butterflies.” The eerie video follows a group of friends as they gyrate through glittering city streets, tailed by ghostly figures. It’s a stark contrast to the video for “Too Bizarre” (with Swae Lee and Siiickbrain), which depicted a carefree, no-holds-barred basement punk party. “Butterflies” was Skrillex’s first official release since 2019. It effectively blew the lid off the hype surrounding his sophomore album, which fans have been clamoring for since he announced a wrap on production of a new body of work in March 2020. He’s remained tight-lipped ever since, however. Check out the official “Butterflies” music video b...
