Nigerian government distributes relief materials to IDPs in Bauchi
The Federal Government has distributed relief materials to 578 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Shira Local Government Area of Bauchi. Alhaji Basheer Mohammed, the Federal Commissioner, National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI), made this known at the presentation of the materials to the IDPs on Saturday in Shira Local Government Area of Bauchi State. Represented by the North-East Zonal Coordinator, Mr Abdullahi Kaoje, he said the donation was part of the federal government’s commitment to bring succour to those affected by the activities of armed bandits and cattle rustlers in the state. CBN: Naira to fall further in January
Barely five days to the end of the year 2020, the Central Bank of Nigeria has disclosed that a survey carried out by its Statistics Department revealed that the naira is expected to depreciate further in January 2021. The report, titled, ‘December 2020 Business Expectations Survey Report’ added that there might also be a steady rise in interest rate from December till the next six months. The naira witnessed a sharp fall in recent weeks, reaching its lowest on November 30, 2020, when it exchanged for N500/$1. Since then, the dollar has been hovering between N460 and N470. Troops raid terrorists’ hideouts, eliminate five in Borno
Troops of Operation Fire Ball have eliminated five Boko Haram (BHT)/ISWAP terrorists and recovered a cache of arms and ammunition as well as bags of assorted grains in recent attacks on their hideouts in Borno. The Acting Director, Defence Media Operations, Brig.-Gen. Benard Onyeuko, disclosed this in statement on Sunday. Onyeuko said that Operation Fire Ball, a subsidiary of Operation Lafiya Dole, had continued to clear terrorists from their identified enclaves in the North East. NSCDC dismisses officer for ‘looting’ virus palliatives in Abuja
SIGNAL The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has dismissed a Corps Assistant, Illiya Ibrahim, from service for allegedly looting COVID-19 palliatives discovered in a warehouse in Gwagwalada, Abuja. It was gathered that Ibrahim of the Gwagwalada Division Abuja was seen with some food items while wearing the NSCDC uniform at the scene where hundreds of youths looted COVID-19 palliatives in Abuja. Most of the looted palliatives in warehouses across the nation were awaiting distribution to over 2 million vulnerable households, the private sector-led Coalition Against COVID (CACOVID) has explained. 50 ships with petroleum products, food items to arrive Lagos ports
Fifty ships laden with petroleum products, food items and other goods are expected at the TinCan Island Port and the Lagos Port Complex from May 20 to June 3. The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) made this known in its publication, `Shipping Position’, a copy of which was made available to newsmen in Lagos on Wednesday. It said that the ships contained vehicles, containers, bulk wheat, inballast, general cargo, sulphur in jumbo bag, base oil, frozen fish, bulk fertiliser, butane gas, petrol and automobile gasoline.
