There’s no doubt about it, Barbiecore has taken over this season. Just when we thought we’d seen all iterations of the fuchsia-pink style, Florence Pugh took the trend to a new level as she danced and sang at Wilderness Festival last weekend. Wearing a sheer magenta jumpsuit with a keyhole neckline and a diamanté heart at the halterneck over a pastel-pink bikini, Pugh gave Barbiecore a summer-festival makeover. Posting snaps on Saturday 13 Aug., Pugh captioned the joyful photos by writing: “Grab your friend, grab a field, frolic in pink and sing stupid silliness. And also put a shitload of flowers in your hair like Dani did.” Fans were quick to make the link between the caption and one of Pugh’s most iconic roles. The 26-year-old played the character of Dani i...
Puss and Boots is down to his ninth and final life in the new trailer for DreamWorks’ The Last Wish. This is the long-gestating sequel to 2011’s Puss in Boots, which itself was a spinoff of 2004’s Shrek 2. Antonio Banderas returns as the titular fearless feline, who begins the trailer by defeating a giant, but who lingers in his victory speech a little too long and finds himself crushed to death. That’s nothing new to Puss in Boots, who, as he soon recounts, has died a number of times. There was the bull-fighting incident, the time he didn’t land on his feet, the mix-up with seafood, and the whoopsie in a cannon. He’s a bit slow to count it up — “I’m not really a math guy,” he says — but to his horror, he soon realizes he has already perished eight times. “What do ...
The world of Dune is about to get even spicier. As Variety and Deadline report, Florence Pugh is close to a deal that would see her step into the role of Princess Irulan in Dune: Part Two. Anyone who’s gotten as far as page one in Frank Herbert’s classic novel will recognize the name Princess Irulan; her character is a renowned historian, and excerpts from her later books appear before every chapter. She is also the eldest daughter of Padishah Emperor Shaddam Corrino IV, who assigns Duke Leto Atreides (Oscar Isaac) to the spice-rich desert planet Arrakis. Duke Leto brings his family along, including his son Paul (Timothée Chalamet), kicking off the events of the 2021 film. While book readers already know the answer, we’ll let film fans wonder if Princess ...
More details are unfurling about Oppenheimer, Christopher Nolan’s forthcoming World War II drama about the making of the atomic bomb. The cast of Father of the Bride reunited for the first time in 25 years (!) on Friday. The all-star group of actors got back together for Father of the Bride Part 3 (ish), a “special sequel” that caught up with the Banks family over a Zoom call for a wedding-related announcement. Steve Martin, Diane Keaton, Kimberly Williams-Paisley, Kieran Culkin, Martin Short, and George Newbern all looked delighted to see one another again for the 25-minute performance. There to host for the modern family gathering was Reese Witherspoon. And because the miniature sequel is supposed to take places years down the road, the ensemble was expanded to include several new faces, with Alexandra Shipp, Ben Platt, Florence Pugh, and Robert DeNiro all joining the fold. We won’t spoil anything, but make sure t...
