The 30 Best Albums of 2022 (So Far)

The following acts released quality albums in May 2022 alone: Radiohead off-shoot The Smile, Kendrick Lamar, Wilco, Arcade Fire, Sharon Van Etten, The Black Keys, Florence + the Machine, Harry Styles — we’ll stop there for space reasons. It’s been such a wild music year so far, only some of them made the following list. Maybe 2022 was just front-loaded and the final six months will be less eventful. (Judging by the release calendar, that’s probably a bad prediction.) Either way, we had trouble even narrowing this down to 30. Let’s meet back here at year’s end and see how things shake out. 30. In an expansive Elle cover story, FKA twigs elaborated further about her experience with former partner and Honey Boy co-star Shia LaBeouf, who she sued for sexual battery, assault and abuse in December 2020. Singer FKA Twigs [born Tahliah Debrett Barnett] is suing her ex-boyfriend, actor Shia LaBeouf, accusing the Transformers star of “relentless” abuse, including sexual battery, assault, emotional distress and that he “knowingly” giving her a sexually transmitted disease during their relationship, which spanned nearly a year between 2018 and 2019. According to the New York Times, the suit was filed in Los Angeles County on Friday. The Times also details several incidents, including one in 2019 where LaBeouf threatened to crash the car they were driving in if Twigs didn’t tell him she loved him. Nigerian superstars, Wizkid and Burna Boy, dominated the night at the just concluded Mobo Awards 2020. Wizkid bagged the Best African Act while Burna Boy received the Best International Act. Newsmen report that the awards stopped but later came back after a three-year hiatus as organizers announced on November 24 the nominations for the 2020 Music of Black Origin Awards. FKA Twigs Is Finishing a New Album in Quarantine

While quarantine has halted the writing process for some artists, it’s sparked creativity for others.
