As we waited backstage during the :15 minute changeover after Maddy O’Neal’s inspired set, WHIPPED CREAM noted that the crowd had dissipated a bit. It’s expected – people need to grab another beer, take a break – all the things. But she wasn’t phased. “They’ll come,” she said. And they did. Half way into her opening track, “Light of Mine,” droves of fans began pouring into Lollapalooza’s Solana x Perry’s stage, a 30,000 capacity field set against the Chicago skyline. Her 45 minute sophomore Lollapalooza set kept building with every transition – a fresh recipe of electronic bass music, hip hop and cinematic gold. Downtempo and hypnotic. Uptempo and slammed. And out of nowhere, a mid-set remix of George Michael’s “Careless Whisper” had the crowd singing in full 80’s unison feels. WHIPP...
Our latest SPIN First Drop: Visionaries Edition showcases Do LaB and Lightning in a Bottle co-founder, Jesse Flemming. In 2006, the Do LaB crew pitched an art installation project to the folks at Coachella. When they finally got the green light, they only had about a week to prep their dome and installation, so they brought their whole community together and somehow pulled it off. True to form, they also set up their sound system & DJ gear, which spawned a renegade party that went into the late hours throughout the weekend. After the festival shut down each night, Do LaB just kept going, and that became the birth of what would become the official Do LaB stage at Coachella. …and they never looked back. Today, Do LaB is one of the major guiding lights of west coast festival culture and h...
In our first SPIN First Drop: Visionaries Edition, we spotlight DJ and Desert Hearts co-founder, Mikey Lion. With the moniker “House, Techno, Love,” Desert Hearts, of course, features an extraordinary array of artists in house and techno. But it’s the “love” aspect that embodies Desert Hearts’ DNA. Seemingly everywhere you go, positive energy, connectivity, and overall epic high vibes permeate the air. Desert Hearts’ recent event last spring marked their 10th Anniversary celebration, but their journey through the pandemic saw them lose their venue and there was definitely a question as to whether the festival would survive. Finally landing their new venue at Lake Perris marked a new era for Desert Hearts along with a newfound musical direction, featuring the likes of Detroit’s very own Car...
Hailing from The Bronx, The Martinez Brothers are widely known for their extended DJ marathon sets in Ibiza and at the legendary Club Space in Miami. They never prepare their sets ahead of time, preferring to feel the vibe and pick up on the energy of the crowd. As producers, they’ve released major club records, spanning from their break out “H2 Da Izzo” in 2012 to their 2019 Lil Yachty Feat. Lil Baby “SaintLaurentYSL” remix. They’ve also made their mark on the Latin pop scene, with Rauw Alejandro, Zion & Lennox, and Mr. Naisgai’s “Química” as well as The Martinez Brothers Feat. Fuego “Pendiente Al Paso”. We joined them inside the Yuma tent, where their signature house/techno sound had the Coachella 2022 crowd bumping nonstop. Step into the DJ booth with The Martinez Brothers and watch...
French electronic artist, DJ, record producer, vocalist and songwriter Madeon has been producing since the age of 11. At 17, he released his groundbreaking “Pop Culture” YouTube video, a live performance mash-up of 39 pop songs using a Novation Launchpad, nabbing millions of views in just a few days. Since then, he’s covered the map – touring with the likes of Swedish House Mafia and Lady Gaga. He also ended up working with Gaga on several of her releases, including “Venus,” from her third studio album, Artpop. Madeon has a palpable connection with his fans, made evident by the energy exchange between him and his audience at Day Club Palm Springs, who hung on every beat of his poolside DJ set. Afterwards, we connected with Madeon to explore the contrast between his live performances and dj...

With over two decades in the game, UK-born Michael Bibi has been DJ’ing and producing since he was a kid. He’d accompany his father, a touring blues and jazz artist, from a young age, taking in a range of musical influences. Headlining the Yuma tent at Coachella 2022 and Framework’s Art of the Wild after party were notable highlights of what has been his first major US tour. This summer he’ll also be taking over the iconic DC10 for his Solid Groove Motel season-long residency. Bibi’s seemingly unstoppable rise started in 2018 with the release of Hanging Tree and he hasn’t looked back since. When asked to describe his genre/subgenre within electronic music, he simply calls it “groovy.” We couldn’t agree more. Step into the DJ booth with Michael Bibi and watch his exclusive SPIN First Drop b...
DJ/producer duo SLANDER are LA’s Derek Andersen and Scott Land. As one of the hottest acts in electronic dance music today, they’ve helped push melodic bass into the mainstream, hence Sunday night’s headlining slot at the Sahara tent. They’ve remixed the likes of Halsey, Excision, Adele, and Post Malone, and their momentum appears to be unstoppable. We got a chance to hang with them just before they made the climb up to their elevated decks. Get behind the booth at Coachella 2022 and watch SLANDER’s exclusive SPIN First Drop below. Electronic artist SOHMI moved to LA six years ago and soon attended her first festival ever – Coachella. It not only changed her perspective on what live music performance could be, it changed her life. She quit her tech job a year later and devoted herself to music full time. To be on stage in the Yuma tent in such short order was, in her words, “surreal.” With inspired sets that span the range of melodic house, deep house and techno, SOHMI strives to play “music that moves you” both emotionally and physically. Step into the DJ booth with SOHMI and watch her exclusive SPIN First Drop below. To check out more SPIN First Drops, head over to SPIN TV.
