Hamilton Movie Being Released 15 Months Early on Disney+

Disney is fast-tracking the release of a film version of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Tony Award-winning musical, Hamilton, starring the original cast. Originally, the film was set to hit theaters in October 2021, but with millions of Americans currently stuck at home in quarantine, the studio is now altering those plans. Not only will Hamilton be released 15 months early — July 3rd, 2020, to be exact — but it’ll be streaming exclusively on Disney+. “In light of the extraordinary challenges facing our world, this story about leadership, tenacity, hope, love and the power of people to unite against the forces of adversity is both relevant and impactful,” Disney chairman Bob Iger said in a statement. “We are thrilled to bring this phenomenon to Disney+ on the eve of Independence Day, and we hav...

Cannes Film Festival 2020 Officially Canceled Due to COVID-19

Tomorrow was supposed to mark the first day of the 2020 Cannes Film Festival. However, back in March, the event was postponed in light of the coronavirus, with plans to stage the cinematic celebration in July. Now, though, festival director Thierry Frémaux has told Screen Daily that the 73rd annual Cannes Film Festival has officially been canceled altogether. Frémaux and the Cannes team seem to have come to a conclusion that’s becoming increasingly evident around the entertainment industry: hosting major events in 2020 appears to be impracticable. “Under the circumstances, a physical edition of Cannes 2020 is hard to envisage, so we’ll have to do something different,” Frémaux said. “A ‘festival’ is a collective party, a spectacle that brings together an audience in a given location, in thi...

Harry Potter Actress Miriam Margolyes Admits She Wanted Boris Johnson to Die from Coronavirus

Miriam Margolyes, the veteran actress best known as Professor Sprout from the Harry Potter franchise, admits to wishing that Boris Johnson had died of the novel coronavirus. Margolyes, who also won a BAFTA Award for her work in Martin Scorsese’s The Age of Innocence, said, “I had difficulty not wanting Boris Johnson to die. I wanted him to die,” in an interview with the British TV show The Last Leg. She nearly got her wish. The UK Prime Minister contracted COVID-19 in April, and as his symptoms worsened he was moved into intensive care. Less than a week later he had recovered enough to be released from the hospital. In the tug-of-war between public health and economic strength, Johnson has been more aggressive about bolstering the markets than other world leaders. On the same day...

Bill Murray, Guy Fieri, and Their Sons to Compete in Livestream Nacho-Making Contest

By now, everyone is so bored from months of self-quarantining that nothing should come as a surprise anymore. And yet, it’s fair to say nobody expected Food Network’s newest event: a live nacho-building competition between Bill Murray, Guy Fieri, and their sons. The event will raise money for Fieri’s Restaurant Employee Relief Fund, which assists out-of-work restaurant employees during the coronavirus pandemic. The contest, dubbed “The Nacho Average Showdown”, takes place this Friday, May 15th at 5:00 p.m. ET on the Food Network’s Facebook page. Fieri and Murray will hype up their sons, Hunter Fieri and Homer Murray, while they craft towers of nachos live over the internet. And Now David Lynch With the Weather

With lockdowns still in place across the country, most of us can’t spend more than a few hours outside of our homes. However, that hasn’t stopped David Lynch from bringing the outdoors inside with the return of his delightfully bizarre weather report video series. Longtime fans will recall that the renowned filmmaker used to sporadically post weather report videos to his website in the mid-2000s. Most were all under a minute in length and saw Lynch give very brief, but oftentimes poetic rundowns of the weather in Los Angeles. One memorable broadcast featured the phrase “muted golden sunshine”, while another boasted assistance from longtime friend and colleague Laura Dern. After a long absence, the Blue Velvet and Twin Peaks auteur has again suited up as a makeshift meteorology expert ...

He’s perhaps best known for his iconic role as Frank Costanza in Seinfeld and Arthur Spooner in The King of Queens. In addition to his roles in both hit series, Stiller also appeared in a number of films alongside his son, including Zoolander, Heavyweights, The Heartbreak ...

Pete Davidson Is The King of Staten Island in Trailer for Judd Apatow’s New Movie: Watch

Pete Davidson is a Saturday Night Live breakout comedian from Staten Island whose firefighter father died during 9/11. Now, he’s channeled that real-life story through Judd Apatow’s lens for the new movie The King of Staten Island, the trailer for which has just been released. Co-written by Davidson, Apatow, and Dave Sirus (an SNL writing alum), the film centers on Scott, a 20-something slacker with big dreams of being a tattoo artist and a bigger weed habit. Like Davidson, Scott’s dad was killed on the job as a firefighter, and the grief from that loss 17 years earlier still weighs on him. When his mother (Marisa Tomei) begins dating another firefighter (Bill Burr) named Ray, Scott is forced to finally confront his own stagnation. The King of Staten Island also stars Steve Buscemi as a ve...

Kevin Spacey Compares Losing Job in Pandemic to His Downfall Following Multiple Sexual Assault Allegations

Since the first allegation in 2017, Kevin Spacey has been accused by dozens of people of unwanted harassment, groping, assault, and pedophilia. He lost his job on House of Cards and his career as an A-list actor — but then, as he revoltingly points out in a recent video, haven’t so many of us lost employment in these troubled times?  If you have been fired or furloughed during the coronavirus pandemic, Kevin Spacey claims to feels your pain — for is that really so different than being outed as a serial sexual predator? (We thought this would go without saying but yes, actually, fuck yes those things are different!) For reasons unknown, the German start-up conference Bits & Pretzels invited Spacey to give a virtual speech at the beginning of April. Spacey’s homemade ...

Andy Serkis to Read The Hobbit Live Online in Single Sitting

There’s never been a better time to watch The Lord of the Rings movies than now. With quarantine affording many people ample time to dig into pop culture they’ve previously missed, watching the series back-to-back is a fun way to pass a day (or three). The most impressive way to absorb the iconic stories is by reading the originals, though, and thankfully someone has stepped up to incentivize that route: Gollum himself. Andy Serkis has announced he will read The Hobbit nonstop to raise money for charity tomorrow. Serkis isn’t exaggerating. According to The Guardian, he will give a continuous, live reading of J.R.R. Tolkien’s 1937 novel from start to finish, with no breaks, which should take around 12 hours to do. That’s a massive task to take on, but the actor is determined to do so i...
