Harry Belafonte Slams White House for Doctoring Fake Video of Joe Biden Sleeping

As the 2020 presidential election draws nearer, Donald Trump and his lackeys have becoming increasingly desperate in their attempts to resuscitate his foundering campaign. Trump himself is attempting to make Americans forget about the still ongoing pandemic that has cost 180,000 lives by starting a race war. His Republican operatives, meanwhile, have been circulating manipulated interview clips involving Joe Biden. Yesterday, House Minority Whip Steve Scalise posted a doctored clip of an interview between Biden and an ALS activist, while White House Deputy Chief of Staff Dan Scavino uploaded a fake clip in which Biden falls asleep during a television interview. The latter clip is actually of a 2011 interview featuring actor/singer Harry Belafonte, who was then 86 years old. Scavino removed...

Rose McGowan Accuses Director Alexander Payne of Sexual Misconduct

Content note: this story contains discussions of underage sexual misconduct. Actor, musician, and sexual assault activist Rose McGowan has accused film director Alexander Payne of sexual misconduct. She said she was subjected to his inappropriate behavior when she was only a teenager. “Alexander Payne,” McGowan addressed a tweet posted early Monday. “You sat me down & played a soft-core porn movie you directed for Showtime under a different name. I still remember your apartment in Silverlake [sic]. You are very well-endowed. You left me on a street corner afterwards. I was 15.” Payne would have been 28 at the time of the alleged incident. In a follow-up tweet, McGowan explained that she doesn’t “wish to destroy” the Election and Sideways director, but is seeking an “apology and acknowl...

New Film The Night of the Beast Centers on Two Teenagers Trying to See an Iron Maiden Show

A new movie based on two teenagers trying to make their way to the first-ever Iron Maiden concert in Colombia has been picked up by film company M-appeal. The movie, titled The Night of the Beast, is currently in post-production. According to Variety, the narrative film centers on Bogotá teenagers Vargas and Chuki, who head out to see an Iron Maiden show in Colombia. While the movie itself is fictional, it is based on true events of 2008, when metalheads journeyed to see the iconic metal band play its first concert in the Latin American country. The movie is directed by Mauricio Leiva-Cock, who is the showrunner for the Netflix series Green Frontier. In describing The Night of the Beast, Leiva-Cock said, “It’s not the Colombian film that is usually seen through festivals. It doesn’t have t...

International Day of Slayer is celebrated annually on June 6th, and this year it features the on-demand release of the band’s 2019 movie The Repentless Killogy. This year marks the 18th annual International Day of Slayer. The special day (6/6 — closest date to 666) has seen fans skip work or school to listen to the legendary thrash band’s music all day. And beginning Saturday, fans who didn’t catch The Repentless Killogy in theaters or purchase the Blu-ray can now stream it via video on demand. The VOD stream is available via the band’s website for the appropriate price of $6.66 for 48 hours of access. The Repentless Killogy is essentially two movies in one, combining a narrative story that weaves together the ultra-violent music videos from the band’s Repentless album with a full concert ...

Ryan Gosling to Howl as The Wolfman for Universal

Start howling, folks: Ryan Gosling is about to get a whole lot hairier. According to Variety, the Hollywood hunk has signed on to play the Wolfman in what will be the next Universal Monsters reboot to come from Universal. Details are scarce as of press time, but sources tell the publication that Universal has been meeting with directors over the past month. Nothing’s confirmed at the moment, but Bad Education director Cory Finley is said to be in the mix. Orange is the New Black writers Lauren Schuker Blum and Rebecca Angelo penned the screenplay that’s based on an idea by Gosling. In fact, sources are touting Nightcrawler as an influence, which is interesting. It goes without saying that the film follows this year’s incredibly successful reimagining of The Invisible Man, which direct...

Stephen King’s The Shining: The Opera Streaming for Free

All work and no play makes life dull for opera fans, which is why this piece of news should get them singing again. As Bloody Disgusting points out, the Minnesota Opera is streaming an audio recording of its 2016 production of The Shining. At the time, the production sold out its entire two-week run at St. Paul’s Ordway Theater, making this all the more of a sweet treat for fans who never snagged tickets. Granted, it’s only audio, but hey, we take what we can get. Written by Mark Campbell and composer Paul Moravec, The Shining works heavily from King’s novel. However, Bloody Disgusting says the production also “borrowed flourishes from the Stanley Kubrick film adaptation,” writing “the Overlook’s ghostly residents … were represented by a combination of light projections and live performers...

Apple Picks Up Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon

Goodbye Netflix, hello Apple. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Martin Scorsese’s next high-priced crime drama Killers of the Flower Moon has been scooped up by the global conglomerate. As the publication reports, Apple is in final negotiations with Paramount Pictures to both partner and produce the expensive project, which currently touts a budget north of $150 million. Why so pricey? Well, when you string together Scorsese, Robert De Niro, and Leonardo Di Caprio, things start to add up. And add up they have! Sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that the budget may have been too high for even Netflix, who reportedly were willing to pony up $215 million for the damn thing. So, it’s likely this flick could be floating around Irishman territory, which is rumored to have cost $225 million. ...

Zack Snyder Reveals First Look at Darkseid in Justice League Director’s Cut

Today marks the launch of HBO Max, but one of the new streaming service’s most anticipated pieces of content won’t arrive for another year. As a reminder that Zack Snyder’s yet-unfinished director’s cut of Justice League will indeed be completed and debut on the platform in 2021, the filmmaker has revealed a tantalizing first look at the movie’s secondary antagonist, Darkseid. For the ungeeky, Darkseid is essentially the DC Extended Universe’s answer to Thanos (or, uh, other way around, since Darkseid was created first). He’s the Big Bad behind the scenes, laying the groundwork for a master plan to eliminate freewill across the universe. In the context of Justice League, he’s the uncle and master of Steppenwolf, the primary villain played by Ciarán Hinds in the film’s theatrical version. R...

Henry Cavill in Talks to Return as Superman in DC Extended Universe Films: Report

At this point, I’d be cautious to take news coming out about any cinematic Superman with a grain of salt, but here’s the latest: Henry Cavill is reportedly in talks to reprise his role as the Man of Steel in future DC Extended Universe films. Deadline broke the story, noting that “sources with knowledge” of the situation say Warner Bros. is trying to bring Cavill back for multiple DC movies. However, one of those is not a standalone sequel to 2013’s Man of Steel. Instead, Cavill’s Superman would appear in supporting or cameo roles in other characters’ movies, with many comparing the arrangement to something like Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Looking ahead, WB currently has Wonder Woman 1984 awaiting an August 14th release after a COVID-19-induced delay, while&n...
