“Any time I can make out anything that’s going on, I stop the show and help them get the help they need,” Scott said. “I could just never imagine the severity of the situation.” “We’ve been working closely with everyone to just try to get to the bottom of this. City of Houston, HPD, fire department — you know, everyone to help us figure this out. If you have any information, please just contact your local authorities. Everybody, continue to just keep your prayers,” said Scott. “I mean, I’m honestly just devastated and I could never imagine anything like this just happening,” he said. “I’m gonna do everything I can to keep you guys updated and keep you guys informed on what’s going on.” Houston M...

‘She Felt Like Her Ribs Were Breaking’: On the Ground at Travis Scott’s Astroworld Tragedy

When I got there, security and law enforcement were good, were turning people away, had things under control. But later in the day more and more people were showing up and it got harder to deal with. There was a photo pit by the stage and there were a ton of people in there, when you were supposed to have had a special band to get in there. Started out well and then towards the end it was just a massive amount of people. Rolling Loud was over-policed, way too many police. Was in the artist area and there were a massive amount of police officers there. Didn’t feel that at Astroworld. There were cops, cops on horses, but it didn’t feel like New York. SZA went on before Travis, then everybody went toward the main stage. I went through VIP, but before I got there it was a massive crowd of peop...

8 Dead, 300 Injured at Travis Scott’s Astroworld Festival In Houston

Videos shared on social media show a chaotic scene. Early in the evening, in a separate incident, hundreds of concert-goers toppled steel barricades and stormed through security to access the concert. Later, as the tragedy was already underway, medical personnel can be seen carrying young people out on stretchers and attempting CPR on others. One clip showed Scott still on stage performing as several concertgoers attempted to inform security guards of the emergency. Friday’s festival lineup featured artists including SZA, Master P, Yves Tumor, Toro y Moi, Roddy Rich, Lil Baby and Scott, who was scheduled to close the night from 8:45-10 p.m. He brought out a surprise guest in Drake. Astroworld Fest Confirms Saturday Is Canceled Following Friday Night Tragedy

According to Houston Fire Department Chief Samuel Peña at a press conference, the “mass casualty” event occurred at 9:38 p.m. local time at Houston’s NRG Park. Estimating the crowd’s attendance at around 50,000, Peña said trouble started shortly after 9 p.m. when “the crowd began to compress toward the front of the stage and that caused some panic and started causing some injuries. People began to fall out and become unconscious and that created additional panic.” Per Peña, Astroworld’s medical tent and staff was “quickly overwhelmed” by the scale of the incident, after which the Houston fire department stepped in and dispatched 50 units. J. Cole & Playboi Carti Battle It Out For Rolling Loud NYC Day 2 Supremacy

Playboi Carti took the Audiomack stage around 9:15 p.m., and there was no chance the Atlanta rap superstar would let Cole show him up at a festival known for raging and mosh pits. By the time Carti pulled up in an all-black outfit to the sounds of “Stop Breathing,” the rain had begun to pour heavily, setting up the scene for one of the most wildest sets at Rolling Loud. Fans were taking off and throwing their clothes, jewelry and whatever else was on their body as King Vamp instructed them to go wild while he segued into “Rockstar Made,” “Teen X” and “JumpOutTheHouse.” Once Carti dove into his feature on Ye’s “Off the Grid,” the ground began to shake, causing festival-goers to let off all their pent-up energy. J. Cole and hi...

SXSW Releases Statement Decrying ‘Discriminatory Laws’ in Texas

Both laws were met with widespread outrage and condemnation by artists as well as the general public, as well as calls for boycotts of the state. In its statement released today, SXSW said it would not abandon Austin, saying that leaving “would economically damage the city much more than it would the state. Much of the economic impact derived from our event benefits the city’s small business and creative communities. Austin is part of SXSW’s DNA, and we are committed to staying and fighting alongside the people who have made us who we are. We will continue to use our platform to further the progression of human rights at home and across the globe.” The statement was also released ahead of this weekend’s National Women’s March in support of reproductive rights, set to take place...
