Danny Wimmer Presents Files Counterclaim Against AEG in Festival Dispute

AEG’s attorneys claim that Wimmer and company chief executive Danny Hares “relied upon deceit and fraud to achieve its goal” to create duplicate events, saying the 2019 Epicenter festival at Rockingham Festival Grounds was a carbon copy of the Carolina Rebellion festival, while Sonic Temple at MAPRE stadium in Columbus was an alleged knock off of Rock on the Range which had taken place at the same facility. Both Epicenter and Sonic Temple lost money in their launch, and if AEG really believes they have ownership in the events, they should help cover the losses, DWP Attorney Johnny White beginning in 2015 that AEG refused to commit to the event more than a year in advance. But LA-based DWP says they launched the competing events after reaching an impasse with AEG...

After Two COVID-19 Cancelations, Bluesfest Plots October Return

It was the second successive year COVID-19 had sunk Bluesfest’s best-laid plans. The most recent was a gut punch for the wider music industry, and the local businesses that rely on footfall that’s triggered by the five days of festivities. That cancelation “really affected the industry and pulled the last strands of confidence out of everything,” notes veteran concert promoter Michael Chugg. Rather than dwell on the negatives, Noble and his team have locked-in a lineup and new dates, Oct. 1-4, for what will be the first major festival to return since the pandemic struck. “We’re rising,” Bluesfest director Peter Noble told Australian Broadcasting Corporation’s Breakfast program Wednesday (May 19), immediately after the announcement of Bluesfest’s return. “We have to do that because the Aust...

‘Coronavirus restriction’: Nigerian government quoted out of context – minister

The federal government on Tuesday denied media reports that it has “introduced or re-introduced’’ new restrictions on COVID-19. Information minister Lai Mohammed made the rebuttal at a meeting with online publishers in Lagos. Mohammed said there were no new restrictions, adding that the Presidential Steering Committee on COVID-19 only reiterated existing regulations to control spread of the disease. The Presidential Steering Committee on COVID-19 had on Monday announced the enforcement of a curfew across the country in a move it said was to forestall a possible new wave of the pandemic. “The nationwide curfew will be imposed tonight at midnight and it will run through till 4:00 a.m.,” the committee stated. But the minister, a member of the steering committee, said the committee’s national ...

Attorney Plans to File Dozens of Refund Lawsuits Against Ultra Miami

“We are seeking a global settlement with [Event Entertainment Group] that will address our clients’ request for refunds” plus attorneys fees, Corwin tells Billboard. “Settlement is a better path than continued litigation for both the consumer and the defendant and I am hopeful that by filing these actions we can come to a mutually agreeable resolution. While Corwin insists his strategy isn’t to inundate Ultra with dozens of small claims, the tactic has definitely gotten their attention. “I’m trying to stop the flow of people being screwed,” says Corwin, who previously worked as a concert promoter before becoming an attorney in the 1980s. “Many consumers don’t read all the terms and conditions before filing a claim” and don’t realize they’ll get a VIP ticket for next year’s festival i...

Bill Harkin, Designer of Glastonbury Festival’s Pyramid Stage, Dies at 83

Glastonbury Festival founder Michael Eavis pays tribute to Harkin, whose ideas were so unusual they took some time to sink in. “I liked the idea but was slightly wary of the reality, although was captivated by their childlike excitement,” recounts Eavis, the dairy farmer who turned a small concert on his property into the world-famous event, with the help of Harkin. A top-flight architect working for British Leyland car launches, Harkin first came to Glastonbury toward the end of 1970, following the first iteration of the event. The original stage was erected out of scaffolding and plastic sheeting and made its debut for the second edition of Glastonbury Festival, in 1971. Several versions of the Pyramid Stage have popped up over the years, one of which burned down shortly before the 1994 ...
